Has anyone seen this lamp in person? I think it's something I might want, but it looks kinda crappy in that picture.

Basically what I think it is is a frosted glass rectangle with a lightbulb inside. However from the pciure on the website, I cant tell how bright or diffused the light is.

IKEA | Lighting | Table lamps | GRÖNÖ

Anyone seen these?

I had a few very similar lamps from IKEA, I would guess that is was the same as one of these, but they did not come in a set so I can't be sure.

I was fairly diffused, decent atmospheric lighting. I used it as a reading lamp, but I'm not so keen on super bright lighting, even for reading. I got rid of them because when the bulb needed changing, the socket separated from the glass base and never went back in correctly. If you touched the lamp it would fall over and the bulb would touch the inside of the glass. I had three and it eventually happened to all of them.

They looked nice, were cheap to buy, but were crappy quality. In other words, they were from IKEA.

We have one.

I really like it. Doesn't seem crappy, and we've managed to replace bulbs in there without breaking anything without spending too much thought on the matter (or indeed taking any special care whatsoever, actually).

We exchanged the energy-saving bulb for a regular one, though.

I really hate the cold light from those energy-savers.

Yes, there are "warm" options available now. Will give them a spin at some point, but $12-15 is a lot for trying out something that, to date, has really only ever resulted in awful lighting.

I use them for my bedside tables. Good, very cosy lights. Not great for reading though, but passable.

OK, to those of you who have it, I plan to use it for something similar to this setup:

Is it about the same appearance, size and brightness?

Mine are the lower variant, but the brightness seem about right (course you can never really tell with just a photo).

What they mean is an 11W compact fluorescent [CF] bulb, a (good) 11watt CF could equal a 60-75 watt incandescent and use 1/3 the energy. Average home has 30 bulbs and replacing them all with CF bulbs will yield you around $200 energy savings a year. (pays for itself the first year)

Analogika, I am fiinding "warm" CF bulbs here for around $5 a piece, I have an outside light that was a 60W It runs from sundown to sunup (on a sensor) we replaced the 60W bulb almost 6 times in 4 years, I then switched to a 20W CF bulb, it looks just as bright and has been in there for 5 years total now. The energy savings and bulb costs, plus the hassle of opening the fixture (it gets rustier every year living by the ocean) I switched every light i could to CF these days

We had ours years ago, so perhaps they have been redesigned. Or perhaps I am unusually brutish. I'm willing to accept either hypotheses.

Does the light of those "warm" CF bulbs really look similar to the light of regular bulbs?
Light is one of the most important factors for comfortable living for me and therefor energy saving bulbs have always been a no-no even though I would love to save some energy!

I have two of those, with IKEA bulbs. I'm a big fan of the lamps and the lightbulbs.

The IKEA round CFL bulbs that go in those are really quite nice - the glass diffuses the light and gives it a nice ambient glow. It's not as yellow as incandenscent bulbs, but it's a lot cheaper to run with CFL.

IKEA also makes colored CFL bulbs in that size - blue, red, and green - nice effect if you're doing something fancy with the lamps.
Sell or send me your vintage Mac things if you don't want them.

I got em. Or rather one. The other was knocked over and shattered into a million pieces. The big one still stands.

It's bright enough for nice mood lighting.

Ok. So am I understanding that you can choose two to get? It's basically a buy 2 for $12.99 thing? I could choose 2 shorts or 2 talls or a short and a tall?

Mine came in a set. The OP linked to...a set. And yes it's a set of two different sized lamps.
