Hi All,
The other day I looked up in my menu bar to see my bluetooth icon with a squiggly line through it. Clicking on the icon just gives "Bluetooth unavailable".
I went into System Preferences, and the Bluetooth panel isn't there at all.
What the heck has happened? Anyone else have this problem, and any ideas on how to get it back?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Chas

Reboot and reset your PRAM. If that doesn't fix it, you could have bigger problems.

Yeah, this seems to happen to me sometimes too on my 12" powerbook, like steve says, if you reset the PRAM it seems to cure it for a few months. I think people have said before that its something to do with the bluetooth module not getting any power when the computer turns on

Steve and Xanadu,
Yeah, I tried the PRAM thing when I first noticed the problem (even up to the OF stage, 4 zaps). No joy!
Curses, looks like a call to Apple (takes forever for me to get to someone who knows more than I do, those first tier guys rarely do anything except read a database of possible answers! <grump>)
Thanks for taking the time to contribute,
Chas

When I used the Bluetooth module with my iBook, that's what I got when the dongle wasn't plugged in. Like others have said, it sounds like the module isn't being recognized for some reason (no power, or could it be loose?).

thanks for the reply.
Loose? Hmm, possibly.
I'm going to see if I can figure out where the bluetooth module is inside, and check if I can see if it's loose (and if I can put it back). If it's on the motherboard, then I'm guessing it's back to Apple.
Thanks again,
Chas

If a simple reboot doesn't do it for you this method should:
Code:
Shutdown the PowerBook and disconnect everything plugged into it (but not the battery).
Hold the ctrl-option-shift keys, then push the power button.
Release all keys.
Wait 5 seconds.
Boot up the machine.
This is what I did for someone's 12" PowerBook w/ the same issue. Source.
Peace
