Hi,

I read that there was a Photo Image Software (Gimp) included in Leopard.

I tried searching the software but could not find it? I recently purchased an iMac 20" AL with Tiger already installed but I upgraded to Leopard with the included disk.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bob

You can download Gimp online... but not included with Leopard.

iPhoto is what is included with a Mac. If you did an erase install, you may need to reinstall the bundled apps from your disks that came with the machine.

iPhoto is not a photo manipulation program in the way that GIMP is, it is a photo collection management program.

iPhoto's editing capabilities are pretty damn useful, though, and are quite enough for the casual home photographer.

You can even do some pretty useful manipulation of photos in Preview. I just did that for some snaps I took of our new kitten (I'm gonna get in trouble for having all that cuteness without a permit), and color correction, a few pretty neat effects (that you manipulate yourself instead of just clicking a button) and cropping all work very well.

But this is about applications, not iMacs or Minis, so I'm going to move it to the Applications forum.

Oh yeah, iPhoto is great, but it's not a full featured image program like GIMP is all I meant.

To run The GIMP, you have to install the X Windows software, if it's not already on your computer. It's on you Install DVD as an optional install.
