Anyone successfully connect their cell phone
to their Mac with a USB data cable for the purposes
of transferring contacts/ringtones/graphics?
I have a Samsung x426 and a data cable. Since I could
find no mac software available, I have been trying to
use Virtual PC, but it won't pick up the phone through
USB even after installing the driver.

Any ideas?

I don't know how you would do this but your mac will be able to recognize it connect it then check system profiler by going to the apple menu and then clicking on about this mac then click on more info. Once in the system profiler on the left side click on usb then click on one of the usb ports in the column on the right until you find your cell phone if you find your cell phone there then you know that mac os x recognizes it. then you can go open isync and hope that it recognizes it

This won't be of much help, I'm afraid, but to answer a part of your question: Yes, I have been able to transfer contacts/schedules to my Motorola v60 using the USB cable that I purchased. I have even been able to get the 14.4 modem feature working - surfed the web at 1996-like speed a couple of weeks ago...

Thanks for the suggestions...
No luck as far as system profiler or iSync
noticing the phone, recognizes the cable though.
I wrote to Samsung "support" and got this in return:

"The data kit was designed for Windows only and will not work on a macintosh. There is no software available to connect to a Macintosh, nor are there plans to offer one in the future. The only phones Samsung makes that will work with a Mac are the i330 & i500, both are Palm OS devices.

Your interest in our products is greatly appreciated!
Thank you
Technical Support"

Ahhh, the life of a mac user.
But it's nice to know that they appreciate my interest
in their products

Oh well I guess. I haven't given up total hope on Virtual PC,
but it's a lot tougher getting support on that end now
Micro$oft runs it. The old Connectix forums were always helpful.
Thanks for at least replying so far, and if there are any more
ideas out there let me know!
Thanks
Chuck
