Why do ninjas attack one at a time?

There are a lot of ninjas, and they're all fighting the same man. One ninja attacks him, and his fellow ninjas wait until he is defeated before a second individual ninja joins the fight. When the second ninja is defeated, a third ninja takes his place. And so on.
Rather quickly, all the ninjas are defeated.
Clearly ninjas are not good fighters, but surely they can defeat one man if they use their strength in numbers and all attack him together rather than one at a time.
So, why don't ninjas attack all at once?

Also, why do they continue moving their mouths after they finish speaking?

Why do I get the feeling you're not quite getting the feel of this thread.

Honor. You know those Japanese folk are obsessed with that ****.
The better question is why an entire army is incapable of hitting Steven Seagal at point-blank range.

There was a funny SNL sketch in regards to Ninjas fighting. They had an "after-fight session" to go over what went wrong.
They covered stuff like two Ninjas on opposite sides of the room, run towards each other at the enemy.
Sneaking up behind the enemy, then screaming really loud as you run at them from behind.
Stuff like that.
"You mean I shouldn't scream?"
"If you scream he can hear you coming!!"
"What about a really scary scream?"
"NO! NO! NO SCREAMING!"

If the Ninjas would quit going into slow motion maybe they'd stand a better chance.

Skinny Seagal or "Wil Sasso playing Seagal isn't such a stretch" Seagal?

But Ninja much less so. At least that's what the Shogunate would have us believe.
To answer the question with another question: Why would you expect another Ninja to step into a fight where there are at least TWO blades swinging around. Someone could lose an eye.

Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

Sorry to bring this slightly off-topic, but I was wondering if that would be fair at all to attack all at once? Would that break any code of conduct?
I was wondering because I'm the kind of person who likes to ask himself "What would I do if.." and I wasn't sure what to do if I was in a situation where there's a fight and I was involved. I sure wouldn't appreciate if while I was beating the crap out of some guy, the rest of his gang started beating me up all at once. On the other hand, I'm not sure I would stand still while my friend is being beaten up, so I may join to protect him.
What's the "rule" in this situation? And what if one of the guy is clearly stronger than the other? Is is more fair to join to compensate?

It's really hacks me off that the get all the cool, new ninjas in Japan long before they show up for sale in the rest of the world (if they ever do).

A related item is this Youtube clip which features the clash of cultures between Japanese style self-defence and its British equivalent. It's notable in particular for the phrase 'I don't want to see any of that Jackie Chan bollocks'.
I give you Paul Kaye.

i'd like to think it's good sportmanship. if 10 ninjas attack one guy - that's not really "fair." plus, how would they show their own strength if the others can't see them fighting the enemy? um...it also might have to do with choreographing & filming these fight sequences....just a slight hunch.
in point:
one at a time = good show, "my kick is better than yours", "fair" fighting.

To hide their numbers? Oh wait, that's sandpeople.
