I'm interested in seeing the design sensibilities of the people here, so what objects do you consider to be truely ones of desire, or at least outstanding pieces of industrial design. I guess people are perfectly capable of loving designs that appear to be in no way great, but that's interesting too. Does something need to be mould breaking to be great design or can it be just a sublte improvement on an existing design. And are people drawn to certain types of objects (I guess cars and phones). Anyway here are three things that I love:

Ericsson T28 phone

Series 1 Citroen CX

PowerBook G3

Wow.

In all three cases, not top choice.

The t28 is, IMHO, ugly, bulky-looking and overdone, and the flip cover is just asking to break off.

The CX is a nice car, but doesn't hold a candle to the DS.

In general, I've found myself graduating towards a minimal design aesthetic.

I agree with Harlot. The t28 is a pain in the butt, in my opinion. The antenna gets stuck in the crevices of your pants, the flip cover is flimsy and the entire phone is full of design details that serve no clear purpose.

Good design is all about reduction, not addition.

and the t28 was also a rubbish phone. I could never hear what the caller was saying. But I still love the design.

Yes, the DS is the usual choice of iconic Citroen but I've always preferred the CX. Actually on further thought I'm going for the GS,

It embodied all the technological prowess of the DS and CX but made it available to the average person, which was unheard of before or since really.

Here’s some kitchenware to accompany your choices thus far.

I don't know which world you live in, but if the Goddess

is not an object of desire there, I'm glad I live somewhere else.

That may well be, but as with the T28: Have you no taste?

This is probably the most beautiful machine ever made. If you take the shape, the noise, the effect of seeing it in motion, how it performed and the historical significance and achievement, it must be just about perfect.

This I can agree with.

(You've seen the James May Toy Stories episode where he builds a 1:1 scale Airfix model of a Spitfire, I trust?)

C'mon, you know for a corkscrew that's a beautiful thing.

Besides, this is the most fun I've had in a MacNN thread in a while. Don't ruin it.

Thing is there are too many worth a mention, from home appliances, kitchenware as posted by moep to cars or even sneakers… so just adding a few most people'll be aware of while trying to avoid a bunch of Apple products…

Best ever. The G5/Intel iMac design is overplayed. Time for a redesign, if you ask me...

What you talkin' about man? It's bleedin' horrendous - looks like it was designed by Nissan. The 430 was much sweeter.
