I was running FCP and then the app froze up...
Forced quit...
And then I found out that I have lost a bunch of my free disk space...
Ran WhatSize, free app from MacUpdate... and found a 16.5 GB file named
.QT-0196-bedf9c45-bfffe964-00 copy copy
in the trash...
How do I delete the thing?
I open up the trash and there are no files to be seen..
now what...?
TIA..

If a filename begins with a dot like that, it's invisible to the Finder. That's why you're not seeing anything in the Trash. Just empty the Trash, and that should get rid of the file. If the Finder thinks the Trash is empty and won't let you empty it, make an empty folder and throw it in.

Ha, that's what I would call a bug!

Secure Empty Trash (under the Finder menu) will not only get rid of files you can't see, it will recover the space taken up by recently deleted files too.

and take a LONG time if there is 16gb of files in it.
I did it on accedent once with a 200mb or so file while playing wow... man. Not only does it take awhile, it is CPU and/or Disk intensive.
