Hello. How do I keep my PB alive until July...when I am buying the new "expandable" cube and a new Apple 17" LCD with OS X factory loaded [and blessed!].

I have my beta on a separate HD running alone. Hooked to a G3 beige/233/8.6

Please don't say turn the clock ahead. There must be another way!!

Thanks for reading.

Well, i won;t say 'Turn the clock ahead'. but I will say, try turning it back. This may yield much better results.

WTF are you running PB for ? Go out and buy the final version, and download the 10.0.3 update.

One idea could be: just don't reboot. Ever. It's only going to shut you down at the boot process. Since uptime on these system can be measured in months/years just don't ever reboot.

Unfortunately, that may not work. The system could be programmed to detect when the expiration date is approaching, warn the user as it comes around, and then shut down at midnight.

Bottom line: don't try to cheat Apple. You went into this knowing the beta was going to expire; that is why it's beta. You called the tune; time to pay the piper. Sorry for the tone, but I don't much like crackers.

Yeah - try and buy the shipping version of X and update it to 10.0.3.
It costs $99 if you bought the beta.
Plus, it comes with coupons for further free upgrades.

It's the right thing to do, unless you want to keep setting your clock back
just to with deal with a crappy beta.

I think I have to agree with Gee4orce.

Don't be such a cheapskate. Go get the release version or go back to Mac OS 9.1 until you buy a new system.

We are being too hard on poor kenjay! Kenjay's saving up pennies for a fine new Apple system, and that's not exactly being a cheapskate. Heck, if s/he bought OS X now, s/he might not be able to spring for that nice 17" LCD. Let's give the kid a break.

That said, kenjay, I'm afraid you're going to have to bite the bullet and tough it out with OS 9 for a while. Try to look at it as a couple of months of nostalgia.
Dang! I forgot to uncheck the "Show Signature" button again!

Finally a voice of reason!

Yes....I am surely buying a new system as soon as they are announced at MWNY.

You all know... that I have a "lowly" beige G3/233. The beta runs decently on it... alone. No interfacing with "classic". I was really just playing around with it like this. It just doesn't make any sense to me to buy the "final" CD now. So OK...I guess I'll wait the 2 months.

I have 3 NeXT systems in my place to play with in case I get "lonely" for OS X... And MANY other Apple and PC devices to play with.

I live in San Francisco, Ca. You all wouldn't believe what I've found in the thrift stores, the computer "graveyards", and the street!!

And, I own stock in only one company...of course Apple!

So please give me a break! I am surprised that most of the people replying to this thread are so quick to assume that its "only" a matter of $. When in reality, I'm thinking about my present maximum OS X ready hardware, and what its worth [to me] to install it now, only to buy it again in 2 months.

I'll be watching and waiting for 12 o'clock midnight tonight, to see my OS X beta disolve.

Thanks for reading.
