please don't move this to the Lounge LOL..!

so, after all these years, versiontracker.com becomes cnet.
it certainly looks wrong, but...guess i will adapt.

surprising, but so it goes.

There's always Macupdate.

Noooooooo!!!!

That truly sucks. Why does Cnet keep eating up good sites and spitting crap back out?

First, Macfixit, now this.

A moment of silence as another great site gets absorbed and "de-designed" into unusable crap.

Ain't that the truth!

When CNET consumed MFI, they lost me. Fortunately, most of the (former) mods, managers, & regular contributors resurrected it as FineTunedMac: Macintosh, Mac OS X, and Mac System Troubleshooting Forums

And in that same vein, I hope MacUpdate is all the more prosperous.

Anyone know of any other VersionTracker/MacUpdate like sites?

Since VersionTracker has gone there only looks to be MacUpdate. MacUpdate would be fine, except in the past they have pulled some really boneheaded stunts... for instance, protesting the war and bringing up the topic of religion. I'm not against either activity, but neither one has ANYTHING to do with application updates so they have NO PLACE on the site.

I'll use MacUpdate if there is no alternative but I'd really prefer not to.

Yeah, I love how cnet 'integrates' when they consume. Whereby integrate, they mean URL redirect.

Luckily I haven't used VT in the better part of a decade. Hopefully MU can avoid a similar fate because if not we're screwed.

I wouldn't be so rosy. Sites like this don't seem to be as popular as they once were.

Agreed.

That put me off them entirely.

Hm.

Some other alternatives in this article: VersionTracker.com officially 'absorbed' by CNET

I think they took it over a few years ago.
The name change is not that big of a deal.

They also appear to have deleted all the user reviews, which is kind of a shame for apps that have had a long history on the site.

I won't miss it, compared to Macupdate it wasn't very good. Slow and bloated.

I gave Macupdate a pass with the religious stunt - in fact I had already forgotten about it. Heh.

I just downloaded Macupdate Desktop. I like it. I may even pay the $20 a year for it.
