Hi All,

Just went to play a youtube video, no sound from the internal speakers. None with iTunes, video, vimeo, etc, but alerts do play (checked with the volume slider in Settings:Sounds and with the Timer).

Side switch set to unmute, volume turned all the way up (via buttons and OS), no fix. Resetting (home + power until Apple shows) has no effect.

I can play these particular sounds through wired headphones, and bluetooth speakers. Just not the internal speakers.

It's very strange, I haven't updated the OS or anything, it just started spontaneously.

Any ideas I haven't tried?

Thanks in advance for any help,

Chas

The audio output might be going to a Bluetooth or Airplay speaker that is not on.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

Quite possible, but I shut off the bluetooth transceiver (yeah, the OS might still have thought it was connected). I wish I knew why it started working again though.

Thanks for the suggestion, very much appreciated.

Weirdness like this merits a reboot. I've seen similar, though not identical, issues on my iPad 2 and my wife's Mini, and a full reboot resolved the issues quite neatly.
