I got 9 days left on my account, and I am considering subscribing to the service. However, the Apple web site is very sparse on details such as speed caps, transfer caps, multiple connections, etc etc. Does anyone happen to know what these are?

And to those who are using the service now, how would rate it on a scale from 1 to 10? Thanks everyone!

I've got about half of my website hosted at .mac, and it always loads fast, and has always been up. It works okay with GoLive, and lately, since 10.2, has been MUCH, MUCH faster in the finder-- almost tolerable.

Backup looks useful, but I don't need it. Can't speak to the Virex thing-- never even turned it on. Fixin' to order up my 100 free prints...

That's all I know.

Virex is okay I guess, more of a preventative measure than something which actually gets to do its thing on a Mac. Im noticing cooler things about being subscribed constantly starting with its cohesion with iCal and iPhoto and the OS of course. Its worth it for me.

I just had a naaasty HD crash, and back up saved my ass, had all my school work backed up, book marks, playlists, stickes etc. and it hosts my soon to come website, so its worth the 50, and the 100 free prints from kodak r pretty kool also. and the 100 megs of idisk is killer also. now if they could make it a web based upload it also that woudl rock!

i subscribed about a week ago. backup is nice, of course not as full-featured as the retrospect family but decent enough for most simple backups. have not tried virex yet...there does not seem to be any urgency to that until i received the next ms word doc from a windoze user...heheh. the extra web space is nice....so far i've a few photo albums up and had been close to the limit - now i can expand and start thinking about putting other stuff up there. overall, it's worth the $49 (of was amounts to $80 for us canadians) but in a year from now if they still insist upon $99 and don't add some *significant* extra stuff i'll have to think about whether to resubscribe

iDisk is fast as all hell and I have done nothing but complain how slow it was from the day it came out.

A questions for all your champs that install Virex and run it like it might actually find you a date... how many OSX virus' are there that you have even heard of?

The better question would be is it impossible to write a virus for OS X? If not it's only a matter of time until some idiot decides to develope one. I downloaded Virex because I'd rather be safe than sorry. It only takes one virus to ruin your whole day.

Ya but it also causes software incompatibilities.

Back up your porn for the love of god and stop thrashing and scanning your hard drive with stupid software.

Some of us have Windows computers on a local network, and consider use of virus software a wise preventative measure. (Not all computer users are so considerate, I know.) Plus, if a Mac virus does come along, I'm prepared

.Mac = 9
Very happy with it so far.

Not really as Virex can't scan and delete viruses it doesn't know to look for.

Sure Virex has the ability to "Perform an advanced scan of applications and macros" to see if it can find "virus-like characters"

and can sort out all known viruses, but say a virus for OS X was released and your computer was infected and it say deleted your Hard Drive - no amount of Virus protection will help you then.

Yes, having Virex installed will help if one is discovered and Network Associates release updated virus definitions in time to stop it affecting you, but then I'm not aware of many anti-virus software developers that have released updated virus definitions before a virus has struck.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go. My concern is that we are too complacent about Viruses on the Mac, (or lack of) and one day - bang! - a lot of people may be caught with their pants down, and then we are going to look like idiots.
