"In other words, the idea that the PPC 970 (and soon to arrive 980)"

I like the way they predict the future of the 980 efore even the 970 has been announced

I think it's actually possible, I mean, IBM probably can make the chips in higher numbers and faster than mot' making them cheaper, even better, it would guarantee a constant supply of processors so we don't get another 500MHz G4 fiasco.

Really? I heard that if you bought a 970 since they are so cheap Apple would owe you money.

Apple hasn't confirmed that they are using the 970 yet.

What would really make me happy is scheduled on-time processor scaling twice a year or so. that alone would keep the low-end mac at a good cost/performance ratio.

i think its more that motorola has probably been 'over-charging' than the idea that IBM is charging less for the 970 chips, considering the economic situation of the two companies.

note to others:

talking about "rumor sites" and their BS ****ing articles in the lounge will never lead to a positive discourse of the article in question.

oh. number 2. except for a few rare "we'll swing the hammer so many times we just HAVE to hit the rumor close on the head once or twice", no rumor site has a track record worth speaking of. just wait til steve delivers the news. or just entertain your own ideas. but dont give these ****head rumor sites any more time than you would a startrek fan fiction site. unless theres a furry tie in. with captain kirk as an ocelot. and uhura as a sexy grey squirrel. with a big booty. mmm.

keep it in mind.

Well obviously they will be upgrading to something better this year, whatever it may be. So I say you should hold out like the rest of the world is doing

I do not know about IBM vs. Motorola prices.

But I completely buy that Apple plans to drop Motorola and go with IBM all the way. If IBM can produce a PPC970 with altivec, they sure can do it in a G3+, which are far more scalable than the G4 has been.
