It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Yeah, this one came out of left field. Did he do any games related stuff, though?

Of course he did, Iwata was a programming badass. He majored in computer science at the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Some of his feats include:
- Programming EarthBound from scratch. This was a game where the original coding was a mess. He just completely did over the game anda managed to make it work.
- He also ported the battle code of Pokémon Stadium to the Nintendo 64, without any reference documents.
- You know Gold and Silver? The most popular Pokémon games ever? Since Gamefreak was still kind of noobish, they managed to fill the cartridge with just Johto. What does Iwata do? He compressed it enough for them to fit Kanto in. That is right, this Iwata compressed an entire game down when the developers couldn't figure out how to make it work.
At HAL Laboratory he worked in Balloon Fight, EarthBound and Kirby games. He also assisted in the founding of Creatures Inc.

"On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer."
—Satoru Iwata, GDC 2006 keynote speech
Rest in peace, Iwata-San.

Here's an interesting video from years ago where Iwata is interviewed at Game Center CX:

:-(
The quirkiness, surprises and humor will be sorely missed now that all we are left with are people in suits, who talk like people in suits.
