Today Ubiquiti Networks has announced the founding of Ubiquiti Labs, a consumer electronics innovation laboratory. Alongside the reveal of the lab, the company has also released the AmpliFi Wi-Fi system, designed for homes containing multiple connected devices, with priority on eliminating dead zones.
The AmpliFi platform is able to do this by utilizing the latest in 802.11AC Wi-Fi technology combined with a simple and powerful, plug-and-play, multi-radio system. The AmpliFi central router has four Gigabit Ethernet ports, and camouflages an advanced antenna design, with the casing featuring a glowing base LED and a smart LCD display.
Similarly, the extenders themselves are high-gain antennas hidden in a small footprint that can installed into any open electrical socket. These devices are powered by a magnetized base that provides both power and directional adjustment of the antenna. The extenders are 802.11n extenders, with the high-end Amplifi HD improving that to 802.11ac.
Out of the box, the 3 devices are pre-paired to work effectively as a Wi-Fi system. The smart LCD of the router combined with Bluetooth capabilities of the system provide an instant setup experience through any Android or iOS smartphone. Signal strength LEDs are integrated into the extender design to ensure the system is positioned for best possible performance.
Ubiquiti Labs is now taking pre-orders for the AmpliFi system with pricing of the base system starting at $199 for shipments in the summer. The Amplifi LR retails for $299, and the Amplifi HD with speeds up to 1300Mbps sells for $349.
