i don't quite know when this started happening but its the only software issue on my mac. I've had to have the computer ignore me inserting a DVD because it wants to open it up with DVD player by default and this completely hangs the system for some reason, to the point where i have to do a hard reboot using the power button.

I can still play movies if i use like VLC or something but it's just annoying.

I have the latest PB 17"...is anyone having this problem...

any help is appreciated.

cheers,

What happens when you change the default application to open up when a DVD is inserted? (System Preferences -> CDs & DVDs). For example, select "Ignore" and then insert the DVD.

And does it happen with all DVDs, or just certain one(s)?

actually, i already have it set to ignore because then it doesn't try to just open it and the system is fine, then i can proceed to use VLC or whatever...

I'm pretty sure its all DVDs but it would be way too annoying to go through them all...in any case i can safely say it is most DVDs

its not so much that i can't work around the problem but it just shouldn't be happening
