T-Mobile is offering its customers a way to get LTE signal from within their home, in areas where LTE coverage is unavailable or lacking in strength, via a mini cell tower. The
4G LTE CellSpot is a unit measuring 8.5 inches wide and tall, and 1.3 inches thick, and is capable of providing an average area of 3,000 square feet LTE service over the network by using the customer's existing home or business Internet connection.
The 4G LTE CellSpot is useful in situations where a customer's smartphone does not currently have
Wi-Fi calling enabled, or if they wish for a device to connect over LTE but not through a protected Wi-Fi connection. Capable of hosting up to 16 calls with any 3G, 4G, and LTE devices on T-Mobile's network, the carrier is making the device available to eligible Simple Choice customers from November 4 with a refundable $25 deposit and a non-return fee.
Amazon preparing to close Local daily deals, Local Register payments system
Amazon is shutting down two of its "local" services, the retailer has announced. The Amazon Local daily deals service is closing after four years of operation, with it terminating the service completely for its website and mobile app on December 18.
GeekWire reports customers will still be able to redeem any purchased vouchers after the service's closure.
The other closure is a more recently-launched one.
Amazon Local Register attempted to take on PayPal and Square in the mobile card payments market, offering a card reader and transaction fees that undercut its competition. Register is no longer accepting new customers, with existing customers able to continue to take payments until February 1 next year. Merchants will need to download any financial transaction history on the account by February 28, and though
Amazon urges merchants to organize the transfer of any remaining funds before February 28, anything left over will still be available through Amazon Payments after that date.
