So, one of the new specs on the 24" iMac is a 24-watt audio system, as opposed to a 12-watt version on smaller iMacs. I know that at least one person here has the 24"--how's the sound compared to the other iMacs?

Don't expect much from the built-in speakers, apart from them being louder. However, I did find the audio dev note on Apple's site, and it's actually a better audio system, with much better signal to noise ratio for the line out.

Sound is better, but not great. The 24" is:
1) Louder.
2) Has more bass, but it's not really tight bass. It's just more.
For most people it's Good Enough, but in some ways I prefer the sound of the G5 iMac 20". The bass is totally anemic on that machine, but at least that means I don't hear the muffled bass that I hear on the 24".

The builtin speakers are better than the Cambridge Soundworks speakers I had hooked up to my PowerMac G5, but they are pretty old.

If you're an audiophile . . . you're not gonna like it . . . if you're someone who just likes light background music while you work, it does it's job . . . .
