As you all know I busted-up my knee a month ago due to my own drunken bahaviour and it's still pretty swollen-up. I also lost my job. They say put ice on it, so I decide today I'm going to get one of those ACE cold compresses.

Anyway, I put my leg brace on (I have to keep the leg straight) and I'm limping my way over to the local drug store.

Suddenly two little girls are riding up on a bike one is riding it one on the handlebars. They stop so I can pass, and the one on the handlebars says "Hi God Bless you".

Then on my way back, I come accross them again and they say "Hi"

Which is unusual in my nieghborhood.

When I got back home I cried like a baby thinking about it.

Angels? What does it mean?

That's not really a prophetic experience.

Are you still drinking? Maybe you should give your local AA a call.

I hope life gets better for you

Don't go Christian on us. PLEASE!!!

Perhaps they were just nice children.

One of the messages of Christianity is that God is inside all of us, somewhere. So not angels as such, but God working in other people, sure.

God bless you. Look after yourself.

It is? Maybe it is in America - I don't think they try and feed that bs to you at the AA in the UK.

Maybe you should just try giving up on your own. It can be a very positive experience (I gave up cigarettes about a year ago). Once you have decided to give up, everytime you think of or are tempted to have a drink, just think "Yippee! I don't drink anymore, so I don't have to do that!". Next time you have a drink (if there is a next time), really ask yourself if you are enjoying it and what you are getting out of it. Because it is just an addiction, and all you have to do to break that addiction is not to do it anymore. Even if you don't get a job straight away or things still aren't going your way, at least that would be one positive thing that you have done, and are doing. Also, when you are addicted to something, that really means that you are not in control of your own life, and I think that affects you on a subconscious level. If you can take control of this problem, which it is entirely within your power to do, right now, then you will realise that in most other areas of your life that you are in control, and you will begin to take a more active, rather than passive, role in your own life. Again, I am repeating my experiences from giving up cigs, but I think they still apply.

Religion is not going to help you. Deciding never to drink ever again will help you. And be happy, not regretful of the decision, otherwise you will always feel (quite wrongly) that you are missing out.

[edit: it is actually 20 months since I gave up smoking. Not once have I been tempted to start up again. And I gave up after reading "Allen Carr's Easyway to Give Up Smoking". Every smoker should read it - you have nothing to lose, it costs the same as a pack of cigarettes. And it isn't what you would expect from a 'Give up smoking' book. Mike, if you smoke as well, I really recommend this book, as there are points in it that can be equally applied to your drinking problem, and I think it could help you. Oh, and you can smoke your way through the entire book ]

Sounds like grief to me. And depression. Are you sleeping and eating OK? Go see a counsellor before you turn into a christian.

More pafetic, than prophetic.

I'm not a Christian, but I just am curious, why the transparent hatred for the idea of someone becoming one?

If Mike were to decide that he found a better way in life by becoming a Christian, Muslim, Jew or Mormon, who would we be to criticize his choice?

Mike, it sounds to me like you ran into some nice girls. Even in the worst of neighborhoods, most people are good. Perhaps they were just taught well by their parents.

In any case, I hope that their cheerfulness transposes itself onto your life. I hope your knee heals quickly, your job situation gets better and you "get happy."

Prophetic experience? All the time. I announce these experiences by saying aloud 'This is gonna hurt' and, more often than not, it does. A lot.

If you mean a profound experience, then no, not really.

FYI on the Christianity in UK AA: Yes, it's true. My Dad used to go and they gave him a special bible (it's got a cut-out for a Whiskey bottle ) Joking on the cut-out but not being a christian is one of the reasons he stopped going. Then he fell off the wagon. What he was doing on the wagon is anyones guess, especially after all that booze.

My brother-in-law-to-be bust his knee last year, six months in a brace and Physio, another two months without the brace and physio and he can run again.
He never lost his job though.

Mike, good luck getting the knee right, getting back to work, cutting down the beers, getting your head straight (we could all do with a little of that sometimes) and getting your sh*t together.

Maybe not prophetic, but deffinently profound experience.
It was the day I went to the Buddhist Temple on top of Ba-den mountain in Vietnam.
You can read about the Mountain HERE.
Some info about the Lunar festival
To sit and chant with the Monks in the main Temple is a very moving experience.
The view from the Temple is great also. You can see the whole valley from Dau Tieng Lake to the city of Tay Ninh.

God Bless you

Serious though, if you're thinking about God perhaps you should actually look to God and ask Him for help? Could it hurt? Actually yeah it could. God might have let this stuff happen to you so that you would realize that life wasn't something to be lived without Him.
Do you have any friends you could call? If you're feeling this crappy you might think to call a friend... not a drinking buddy but someone who cares about you enough to give you something to do instead of drink.

Well, I really wish I knew what to say to you. Angels? I don't believe in seraphim, or cherubs or anything of the like... but things happen to us that are important and sometimes moving, so, who knows. Just hearing it makes it seem very simple to me, but then again I'm not you. Perhaps they are, in some sense, your own personal angels, if they've moved you so.

Mike, I can only guess as to who you are as a person and what your state of mind is, but if you ask me, and keep in mind this is a very, very rough stab at it all, I think it's a sign that you need to reach out to others. Maybe religion is the path, perhaps it isn't. I cannot tell you whether it is or not. Forgive me for saying so openly, but it looks to me like they touched a part of you, a part of you not used to being touched, used to being hidden. Your grief, I cannot say exactly, but it looks like it comes perhaps as relief of being so touched, and perhaps also sadness that part of you isn't more open.

Again, I may be way off in my assesment. I do not know you. But it seems to me you're going through a bit of a hard time in life, so, I offer what little advice I can, regardless or relevancy. I hope, however, that it provides some help, no matter how small. One piece of advice, however, if you should turn to religion: don't allow it to become your only sustenance. Religion is a guide for the soul to attain peace, perhaps enlightenment. Dogma and ideology are of no consequence -- at best metaphors for the more fundamental aspects of life and human nature, at worst food for zealots. What matters in the end are people and their wellbeing, and finding peace within us all. Or something like that.

Yes. I prophesied that this would become a stupid religious/anti-religious thread. And my prophesy has come true...

Anyways, personally I think you should just lay off the booze and try to seek out some support support somewhere. (Friends, AA, family, etc.)

complete and utter garbage.

would do you some good to research your sig pic while your at it.

your "dont turn Christian on us" remark smells of your hippocrital display of your sig pic....

that is from Ethiopia (and was its nations flag until recently it was changed) and it represents Jesus Christ as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, and has been a symbol of the Ethiopian Kings for well over a thousand years..... Judaism coming to Ethiopia thru the Queen of Sheba upon her return from King Solomon.. I Kings 10:1-13......of which you can learn of if you read the Kebra Negast or the Fetah Negast.
Christianity coming to Ethiopia thru the Ethiopian eunuch found in Acts 8:26-40

and if youre trying to pull a rasta vibe with the sig pic then you should still have a sensitivity to its origins and the fact that it stems from the Lord....

It's quite hard to hear someone talk if you cover your ears. Perhaps if Mike listens, he might gain something out of the experience.

Perhaps not, but the anti-christian sentiment is stronger here than I see in most places.

point taken - sig removed. FWIW, I know a lot about rastafarian history and culture, and of course I know what the flag is. I am not a rastafarian at all. I am not religious. I am a big fan/afficionado of reggae music, and have hundreds of albums from Burning Spear, Abyssinians, Culture etc. (a whole thread by itself), and the sig was more a nod to the music than rastafarian religion. Not only that, but the flag is a symbol of Haile Selassie, who although I do not recognise him as Jesus reincarnated or anything, I have a lot of respect for, and who I have learned about since learning about rastafari. Hence it doesn't necessarily have to have a religious context.

It's about time I changed my sig anyway.

tintub, I wanted to apologize coming off so hard last nite. I was in a bad mood and I really could have responded diffferently to you on that.

I was a rasta for 10 years, and when i say that i dont mean it lightly.. I prayed to Haile Selassie daily, and went to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, was baptised and got my amharic name.... Had locks down below my waist and vehemently spoke to people about Haile Selassie being not only Jesus Christ but the Holy Spirit. But I always knew about Jesus Christ and always in the back of my heart I felt something was incomplete about where I was... to make a long story short I kept seeking the Lord and ended up searching out new churches and eventually was re baptised in Jesus name... and since have been completely delivered from my past doctrine.... There is much unknown about Haile Selassie but one thing the Bible says is that theres no greater name under heaven whereby we must be saved, the name of Jesus Christ....

again I want to apologize for my attitude.

i tried to pm you this as to not take the thread further off topic but your box was full.

So what you are saying is that God will actually say something back to him directly and not though a burning bush or anything like that.

I think that will only happen if Mike is drunk off his ass.
