Hey everyone,

I have a 12" ibook g4 1.33ghz 1.5gig that has been having a progressing panic problem. Frequently when it wakes from sleep the grey "you must restart/shutdown" box would appear. It now happens several times a day with no forewarning. I've taken out the 1gig chip of ram and reinstalled mac os 10.4.2, but it has not helped. I'm guessing it's either the hard drive, processor, or logic board. Is there any way to narrow it down more? I don't have the original apple hardware test cd, so I'm not sure what to do. The panic log that it creates is below. Any help much apprciated.

Thanks!
Alex

It sounds like the logic board error a lot of G4 users have been getting lately. Is your airport/modem on when you get this? Does it restart in Open Firmware or issue a KP when you reboot?

some things you can try:

1. Boot from another Mac OS drive and see if it's still happening.
2. Create a new user and see if it's still happening.
3. Remove any additional ram and....
4. Eat a bag of potato chips...

Sorry to ressurect this old thread, but I have the same problem as above.

Kernel Panics out the wazoo, sometimes during the startup process, sometimes 3-5 minutes after reboot.

I've erased and reinstalled 10.4.11, still no help. I also can't find my hardware test cd. I've removed the third party ram.

However, I have never had a panic when booting from the install DVD. . . does this imply a hard drive problem? Boy, that would be nice. . . . much rather that than a motherboard issue.

Sounds to me like a logic board issue perhaps. Check with Apple to see if your model had any logic board recalls. If not, try zapping the PRAM and reseting the power manager on the logic board.
Reset PRAM: Hold down the Apple + Option + P + R keys while starting up computer. Hold keys down until computer restarts then release keys.
Reset Power Manager: Turn computer off. Press shift + control + Option + Power, all at the same time. Hold keys down for 5 seconds then release. Start up computer as usual.
Good luck !!!
