Hi guys,

I need to find out some information on ripping DVD's and converting them to one single format, most prefered is .mpg or .mov.

Say I have a DVD I bought, I want to know what applications I need to use to put them onto my hard drive and converting all the files (.vob etc) into a single format.

If someone can help I would be very, very grateful.

Thanks!
Oliver Cameron

Go to Versiontracker.com and get a software called OSEx. Then also get ffmpegX. Read the files that come with them, and you should be set to backup your own movies. I do DVD backup as well to watch movies on a trip without the trouble of carrying around many disks. It is a pain in the butt when you can have many movies in much less space on your hard drive. Portables nowdays have at least 40GB drives, which are pretty good for this purpose.

If you still have problems after downloading the software, try the 3ivX forums .
You'll find a lot of tutorials in the ffmpegX section if you use the search function.

Does ripping the DVD onto hard disk save significantly on battery life too?

Wait a couple of weeks. By then there should be a new complete DVD to .mpg (MPEG-1 or MPEG-2) all in one ripper/encoder solution, which maintains sync.

How's the sync with mEncoder?

Hehe

I've been doing my research and am making myself a DVD-2-MPEG program. I've actually been planning it for about 4 weeks with my friend.

Were going to try and fill the gap with user friendly, as it seems most DVD progs don't seem to be user friendly.

I'll keep you updated. I've already made the interface and some small pref panes.

Who is making this? AND is there a web site?

I would LOVE to pop in a DVD and wait a few hours and have a high-ish quality MPEG4

mplayerosx.sf.net
can't be easier.

um. try to avoid the AppleScript UIs. they suck, generally.

The sync is like perfect with mEncoder.

could you include multi-lingual support for the soundtracks?!

if it is a .mov mp4 movie, it is possible to include several soundtrack to a video, which is really great if you watch movies in other languages than english!

thanks!
