I just tried the new/"improved" version of Hotmail (new as of today) under both Safari AND Internet Explorer, and it is just impossible to dowload attachments, making Hotmail all but useless for most Mac users.

Anyone notice this problem?

Any workarounds?

What's new about it? Besides it breaking things on the Mac?

I didn't think it was even possible to download attachments with the old design in Safari. Never worked right for me anyway. Hitting download always logged me out of Hotmail.

Oh... I guess it wasn't a 'feature' of the new Hotmail then.

Thanks.

As of midnight last night, Hotmail doesn't work at all for me! I go to the page, sign in, and it says my account is 100 percent full, which is interesting, because I have no messages in my inbox or junk mail, nothing. Any messages being sent to me are being returned. I've e-mailed Hotmail, but I'm sure I won't get any response. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on how to MAKE Hotmail realize I have no messages? Or is this just a New Hotmail f'up with Macs?

Thanks!

Downloading does work in IE, but not in Safari.

I think Tominator is right, downloading never worked in Safari.

i just logged in and checked my hotmail no worries. Rarely get attachments though so I can't comment on that. As already mentioned the workaround is obviously to forward the e-mail with attachments to another e-mail account.

"have you checked that you've actually emptied your deleted messages?"

Yep. Was trying everything for hours and hours last night and tonight (including closing the whole account, then restarting it again...), then read on the web about how useless it was to try to get MSN to even check your account and gave up. Had to start a Yahoo account.

Up until last night, Hotmail worked for years... but no more. I have to think it's something with the new site, because it happened right after midnight, when the changes took effect...

Progress, eh?

If it's any consolation, I like Yahoo better. You could also try Fastmail.fm.

One solution would be to use the Classic version of Outlook, which could access Hotmail if I'm not mistaken. I tried my Hotmail account in safari last night (Panther 10.3.1 Safari 1.1.1) and it worked fine. I have never actually had an attachment in Hotmail before, so I don't know if that works or not.

Indeed, I tried to download an attachment and it asked me to retype my password, which brings me back to the "Today" Hotmail page.

Previously, attachments did download, if perhaps a little whacky sometimes.

Everything else still works in Safari.

When you've been using the same email address for many years, changing to a new one isn't the most pleasant thought. Hence, people who have used hotmail in the past as a primary email address will continue to do so. It's especially annoying for me, having just switched from PC to Mac, to no longer be able to access attachments on my hotmail. Fortunately, I don't receive them that often.

The problem being? You can't access .mac (except email) from a PC.

So? Who says that Hotmail is a Windows only service?

Btw. most .Mac features are usable on a PC too (iDisk, Bookmarks, iCards and so on).

I am not having any issues accessing my 3 hotmail accounts through the MAIL application. I use 4 accounts in Mail and hotmail has 2 and it works just like it worked before with that program I have from sourceforge.com. You know what I am talking about?

How good is that plug-in? I'm considering getting my folks to install it - if you don't mind telling, what are its plusses and minuses?

no minuses that I can think of. Works like a charm on 10.3.1. I can't remember the last time I actually logged into hotmail through a web browser (well, about a month ago )

I have to add that the read-me file that comes with that plug-in is very well-written and helps you set up your MAIL application with a hotmail account quickly and easiliy
