We all know that Bill Oreilly wouldn't mind if the terrorists nuked San Francisco and we also know that a great number of you defended his remarks, trying to justify them in some sick manner.

So I went on Google and search "nuke (state)" for each of the 50 states and this is what I got.

State - number of google hits - red or blue according to 2004 election.

California - 1840
Ohio - 1800
Washington (DC) 1420
Florida - 1410
Maine - 1350
New Jersey - 1290
New York - 797
Alabama - 483
Alaska - 423
Utah - 408
Kansas - 359
Oklahoma - 315
Texas - 295
Georgia - 243
Mississippi - 225
Kentucky - 173
Hawaii - 167
Michigan - 166
Virginia - 166
Idaho - 150
Iowa - 139
Nevada - 133
Illinois - 129
Vermont - 109
Minnesota - 104
Montana- 103
Arizona - 103
South Dakota - 102
Wisconsin - 82
Oregon - 81
South Carolina - 81
Nebraska - 79
Tennessee - 75
Colorado - 70
Maryland - 66
Massachusetts - 66
West Virginia - 60
New Mexico - 55
North Dakota - 48
Missouri - 44
Arkansas - 36
Wyoming - 30
New Hampshire - 26
Connecticut - 20
Pennsylvania - 19
Louisiana - 17
North Carolina - 16
Rhode Island - 13
Delaware - 11

Why is it that talk of nuking California and San Francisco is so much more prevalent among conservatives than talk of nuking Texas and the South is among liberals?

Awaiting an honest answer...

You have to figure that pretty much everyone that wanted to nuke Ohio and Florida (vote fraud accusations) were liberal Democrats. Those states rank #2 & 4 respectively - with a combined total of *TWICE* that of California.

Looks like the lefties are the ones to point fingers at, contrary to what you stated.

As for wanting to nuke DC, people on both sides of the fence have their own reasons for wanting to do that. I'm surprised it didn't beat out California

Did anyone in this forum really try to justify O'Reilly's remarks supporting terrorist attacks on US cities? Wow.

Edit: I just searched for "nuke california" and mostly I got links about North Korea's current missile range. And a few jokes.

California is a very strategic target for a number of reasons (all non political). If you want to do the most damage to the U.S., California is it.

* Every major climate is represented in this state, geologically the most diverse and useful for resources.
* "The Valley of the Heart's Delight," a name once dubbed for San Jose and the greater Bay Area. Some of the most fertile land in the world.
* 1/8 of the entire country's produce comes from California.
* 1/3 of the entire country's organic foods come from California.
* Almost 15% of the entire population lives in this state.
* Gross State Product is $1.5 trillion. More than any other state, and most countries.

Almost all of the above can be destroyed by a single, well placed nuke over Sacramento. Because of the parallel mountains, the fallout would be contained inside California, and possibly spread into Oregon and Washington. The north/south winds would carry the fallout throughout the states.

You have Stockton, Oakland, and San Francisco. 3 major ports, all within 100 miles of each other. Since all cargo can't be checked on large container ships, center containers can contain the parts for an extremely high yield nuclear weapon.

Let me reiterate what O'Reilly has said many times on his show since all the over sensitive liberals started crying. It was SARCASM. Man some people get so bent out of shape. Sarcasm is all fine and good until it's an opportunity to try to make conservatives look like hell-spawn, then it's insensitive and morally objectionable and all that nonsense. For the love of...grab a tissue and grow some thicker skin.

Oh, and before I forget--if you happen to be one of the few people I have heard saying that the government is evil and the military are a bunch a barbarian killers who are wholly unecessary, then I think that your house should be considered a free fire zone for whoever wants to take it. You can defend it yourself...but then again that isn't going to happen since guns and violence are not needed because the world is all rainbows and butterflies and cute little kittens right?

Do you even know who he is? Maybe you should at least take the time to listen to what he stands for before you make hollow (although entertaining) threats. As for this San Fran business, research the comment and context before you go taking anyone's word for it and decide for yourself.

First we got the bomb and that was good,
'Cause we love peace and motherhood.
Then Russia got the bomb, but that's O.K.,
'Cause the balance of power's maintained that way!
Who's next?

France got the bomb, but don't you grieve,
'Cause they're on our side (I believe).
China got the bomb, but have no fears;
They can't wipe us out for at least five years!*
Who's next?

Then Indonesia claimed that they
Were gonna get one any day.
South Africa wants two, that's right:
One for the black and one for the white!**
Who's next?

Egypt's gonna get one, too,
Just to use on you know who.
So Israel's getting tense,
Wants one in self defense.
"The Lord's our shepherd," says the psalm,
But just in case, we better get a bomb!
Who's next?

Luxembourg is next to go
And, who knows, maybe Monaco.
We'll try to stay serene and calm
When Alabama gets the bomb!
Who's next, who's next, who's next?
Who's next?

cheers

Whatever the polls say, can we all agree that Santa Monica needs to go? We don't need to take out the entire state of California, but the Beautiful People's Republic of Santa Monica needs about 20 Kilotons.

I'm disappointed Texas is only number 13. Of course, Texas can kick anyone's arse, so maybe the nuke droppers are a bit leery — or they just can't stand pinkos.

Washington State and District of Columbia. They're probably combined when only searching for "washington."

So, you are finally admitting you are a liberal. Your claims of being "independent" have always seemed very contrived to me.

Tell that to Green"peace", they're one of the best funded terrorist organizations in the world.

I think PETA is another issue, but I'll speak to the Greenpeace bit... I guess they do get pretty radical sometimes. Ripping out entire fields of genetically altered crops in the UK is pretty "terrorous," and hanging in the rafters at a nuclear energy conference is also pretty abrasive.

We're talking about using a nuclear weapon on one of our own states; our own men, women, and children. The thought had never entered my head until this thread. Kicking a state out of the union, however, often does. Even in jest, conservatives are easily more violent than liberals. The stereotype is VERY real.

No, no they aren't. This is an issue regarding individuals, not political classes. See, I'll admit that both have the same propensity for violence, extremes on both sides are equally capable of terrible things and hateful attitudes. If you doubt me, take a long look at some of the liberals around here and see how vicious they get in a simple discussion (same with conservatives). It's all about how far someone will go to force their opinion, and that can get pretty bloody, regardless of which side of the political fence you're sitting. History shows an equal amount of violence on all sides.

Is it just me or is the list in the OP precisely evenly distributed between red and blue? In each of the top and bottom 10, there is exactly 5 of each color, for example, and the top half of the list has the same distribution of red and blue as the bottom half.

Was this thread a practical joke?

Then we disagree, that's ok with me. I guess there's hope in the fact that there is a growing dislike of George W. Bush among people on both sides of the spectrum.

Meh, it wouldn't take that many nukes (or even better nano weapons) to take out Texas.

Joking aside though, wouldn't it be far mor practical just to have one country with NY, Cali, Hawaii etc. and another one with Texas, Tennesee, Kentucky etc.? People could finally focus on real progress and not waste so much energy and resources on time consuming pettiness.

If I change my way of living, and if I pave my streets with good times, will the mountain keep on giving…
