When someone posts a comment that a mod doesn't like, instead of deleting it, could something be put in it's place instead? like: This comment was removed because the moderators found it broke the House Rules.

With house rules linking to the forum rules or something along the lines

Also, if possible, have the user name be replaced so that we don't know who it was, along with the sig.

That would be MUCH more work than simply flagging it and making it invisible (AFAIK, posts are generally not deleted outright, but simply shifted into the mods' parallel reality).

You'd require additional posts be made with explanation.

Actually, if a mod logs in, this is pretty much what appears: you get a `This post has been deleted' complete with a reason of why the post had been deleted.

Typically, we delete posts to put a thread back on track or to remove insults. It would be somewhat counterproductive if members would start discussing whether removing post A but not post B was appropriate.

Do you have a particular situation in mind where you feel it would have been better for everyone to see that a post had been removed by the staff?
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
