I know, I know, the current model is barely out. But the inside looks sooo cool. Wouldnt it be cool to have one with a transparent shell? Either completely clear or like the graphite iMac case? Maybe out of Pyrex?

I guess the current aluminum case acts as a heat sink, so they'd have to rethink the cooling a bit.

You want transparent aluminum?
AFAIK the metal shell is necessary to dissipate the heat, so I don't think a transparent shell will do. But yeah, it's a very nice machine, the first time in a long time I felt the want for a desktop. (Realistically, a Mac Pro would be like a Porsche in addition to my every day car in my hypothetical garage.)
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

I think the inner core is the heat sink, cooled by convection and the fan. The outer case shouldn't contribute much to heat dissipation. You could replace it with little or no fan speed penalty.

Another vote for transparent aluminum. I'll take a few kilos while you're selling it. Post a price and we can talk shipping.

I don't have one (of either variation) . I wasn't suggesting a transparent metal (is that even possible?).

But i think it would look cool....

Imagine something with that translucency, made using a scratch resistant and heavier 'glass' like material (Pyrex as suggested before)?

If heat is an issue, just put cooler components in it

Transparent Aluminium (or Aluminum) would be great for the new Mac Pro's outer shell. Not only is it possible, It is likely.

The Miracle Worker SCENE - Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home MOVIE (1986) - HD - YouTube

Did you notice the Mac in the video?

You knew that someone would show this. Right?

Graphite iMac is my most favorite Mac ever! Unfortunately, I didn't have enough money at that time to buy so I had to settle for a Sage iMac, which was also very beautiful.

I have an old iSub that doesn't work if you want to reuse the shell.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
