I was wondering if there is any way that we can emulate a powerpc mac. I know pearpc works for windows, but I was wondering if there are any such programs for OS X. I've tried to compile pearpc, but it fails. I don't really need this, but i was wanting to fool around with some older OS X releases on my MBP without rebooting to windows. If anyone knows of a program that will do what I want, please let me know...

None that I know of, but it would behoove Apple to support running older versions of OS X in a virtual machine on a Mac somehow.

Look up "Discount Electronics" in your phone book. They're up on Anderson near 183 (I think). They have old, all-in-one iMacs for Really Nice Prices™. Drop about $200 and HAVE a PPC Mac.

Yeah, I've been there several times. I just don't want to spend any money on this. Like I said, it's just for curiosity's sake--I don't really need to run older OSs.

Here is the original SheepShaver (what an idiot name: why don't they change it?) web page:

SheepShaver [Web > Gwenole Beauchesne]

... where there is also un Universal Binary DMG.

That said, sadly it only emulates Classic Mac OS up to version 9.0.4.

The Q emulator (based on QEMU) should include SheepShaver support in the future:

Q - [kju:]

... and now that Apple has dropped Classic support from OS X and Microsoft has dropped Virtual PC for Mac (what a shame: it was an excellent product!), Q is indeed a very promising open source solution...
