Sony is saying, "It's Latin for "life.'"

Well, there is no V sound in Latin. V is pronounced as a W.

Yeah I was wondering about how you're supposed to pronounce Vita - 'Vitter' as in fitter, 'Vighter' as in fighter...or Witter or Wighter or...?

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I was pronouncing it 'veeta" much like "Velveeta'.

Edit: Strike that, just realized I was saying Vita in my head like "vitamin".

Edit 2: I was probably doing both.

But here's the thing: I don't think it even works. I think it's Sony throwing money at the wrong problem. Nobody is passing on buying a PS3 because of a lack multiplatform content.

Well, from what I understand they put this on top of the original source code, to preserve the original gameplay. There might have been limitations.

It looks a lot like the Wii.

Edit Crossed a little with a 360 arcade, admittedly.

Edit 2: Obviously a gimme, but still pleasing to hear:
Media: A single self-loading media bay will play 12-centimeter proprietary high-density
optical discs for the new console, as well as 12-centimeter Wii optical discs.

In shots of the controller in a person's hands, it looks to be the size of a keyboard. Freaking huge.

Honestly, I think the system is pretty interesting, but it's still Nintendo.

I don't remember what Nintendo's latest statements on the subject are, but it looks like a proto-type for an system Apple would never release, clearly signaling that they do indeed view the iPad and the inroads into the casual market as a threat.

Yeah I have to agree. I wonder what the cost will be.

Being the price of a controller at $60 is expensive, I know this thing would kill me.

I'm dying to know this. $150 almost feels conservative, only I can't imagine Nintendo is that nuts.

It looks like they're "augmenting" motion control. The new controller has motion controls in it and Wii-motes work with the new console too.

Did they revamped the multiplayer of Halo:Combat Evolved as Wikipedia says this game was produced before XBL.

As for the Mac, I have the PowerPC version. I don't think I have the Intel version. The Intel update was offered for awhile, but then taken down (I think due to licensing expiring). By the sounds of it, the original version for Mac is probably better or just as good as the new version. The Mac version would have higher graphic resolutions than the redone console version.

Hmmm, strange, I thought I created a separate topic on Saint's Row 3, but I guess I decided against it, since I'm the only one in this forum that plays Saint's Row. You guys are all GTA players.

I see we got a Teaser Trailer for Saints Row 3 (or as they are calling it Saint's Row The Third). Looks promising, but still gives no idea about the gameplay or plot. Apparently the Saints are now like celebrities, well known, connected, well-dressed, rich, and live and party in big highrises.

Apparently there is at least one rival gang who's color is red.

I think this is the link to the trailer: YouTube - ‪Saints Row The Third E3 2011 Trailer [HD]‬‏

Nice soundtrack.

Count me in on Saints Row. It felt like more of a next gen jump from San Andreas, than GTA4 for me. I just felt the GTA4 lost more than it gained after playing San Andreas. I still liked it, I just had a LOT more fun with Saints Row. I can't wait for The Third...

Oh also, if the remastered CE is at an attractive price I will certainly pick it up.

As far as the campaign goes, CE was the best experience by far.

Lulz, not for that much I'm afraid.

What business do they have charging 40 dollars for a 10 year old game with a face-lift? The gaming industry is really starting to annoy the crap out of me. Despite record profits and growing sales across all demographics they still feel the need to gouge.

Wii U controller has a DS-style touch screen | Joystiq

From a quick play, it's resistive. It comes with a DS type plastic stylus, it works but isn't accurate with fingers, and no multitouch. Like a big DS screen then.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Yeah, that's nice in theory, but the thought of hooking up the GC or N64 (and dealing with 4:3) has been enough to dissuade me from trying TP or replaying OOT.

Wednesday News: Post Keynotes Hangover Edition

ESA 2011 'Essential Facts' note rise in women, adult gamers | Joystiq
The numbers are too broad. Since Farmville counts has gaming, most of these numbers are worthless.

Wii U third-party sizzle reel composed of 360/PS3/PC footage | Joystiq
When Nintendo showed off a reel of major third-party games currently in development for its newly announced console, the Wii U, the footage wasn't actually playing on Wii U hardware. Nintendo of America prez Reggie Fils-Aime casually admitted as much in a post-presser interview with GameTrailers, excusing it by saying, "We're talking a year away from when the system's gonna launch" -- a hard to argue point, considering developers probably need some time to, ya know, actually make games for it.
This might look like a Nintendo burn at first glance, but the amount of comments I saw that derided the reel graphics as "worse than PS360" was so ridiculous the real joke is on their jerking knees. News flash: Everything looks like crap streaming and/or blown up on a giant projection screen.

Wii U Discs Will Be 25GB In Size
That's roughly the size of a single-layer Blu-Ray correct? Ah, Nintendo.

Hands-on with Battlefield 3: new abilities, combat medics, and destruction
360 FPS fans, I highly recommend you watch the BF trailer on the dashboard. It's not AC-130 trailer amazing, but it's pretty awesome in its own right.

Nintendo Shares Fall After Showing High-Definition Successor to Aging Wii - Bloomberg
Nintendo Co. fell to the lowest in more than five years after the unveiling of its high-definition video-game console prompted some analysts to question the company’s ability to repeat the success of its Wii model.

So, uh, those rumors were pretty damn accurate. The screen is 6.2 inches. Score one for amazing leaks.

The back:

BTW, Nintendo has confirmed that the console only supports one of these mega controllers so far. It's really weird.

Speaking of weird:

What I see: A two player fighting game.
What is going on below: Three players participate, with the iPad user receiving a stream of the game and doing what, exactly?
It's like he's being DM or something. Very odd.

This setup resolves of the problems of multi-player gaming: on a split-screen, you can each see what your opponent sees.

In the Wii U setup, the big screen players might be hunting for pad player, but they can't see what he sees, allowing him to hide better. He can see what they see, but they can't see what he sees. This asymmetrical setup could give rise to some really interesting play options, without having to buy a second tv screen.

Ars Technica says otherwise. Hands-on with the Wii U: it's here, and it's amazing

Nintendo says the controller can display information on its screen that doesn't appear on the TV. In multiplayer games, the player using the new controller can have a different experience from those looking at the TV, offering new co-op and competitive experiences, all in high definition.

We played a game where two players ran around a battlefield on the television; the player with the new controller controlled a flying space ship that could fire down on the other players using motion controls. The flying character had a clear advantage with the ability to fly above everyone else and look down, while the two players using the TV screen had to look for the flying ship and destroy it. There is no more peeking at the other screen; all your information is safe.

Another demo had four players on the screen running around a maze and trying to tackle the player wearing a Mario hat. The player with the new controller wore the hat and could look down on the entirety of the level, so he could see where the other players were looking. It's a high-tech game of hide and seek, and the seeking players had to work together to take down the player that's "it."
