Is there a way to listen to your itunes library which is located at home at your work place?

I have an ibook at home and want to listen to my music via windows itunes at work. Seems like there should be a way.

Thanks.

Running a VPN should do the trick.

Has anyone tested this using VPN? If so how was the results. I have cable internet at home and so I assume is would be sufficient to stream the music to work.

What free VPNs are best for OSX? I did a quick google scan but most are clients for commercial VPNs like Cisco's, Microsoft's or the one with OSX Server.

Would ssh tunnelling work?

I don't know about OS X VPN servers, as I have a Linux server at home using PoPToP. It works for streaming music to uni, and so does SSH tunnelling. Here's an example of how you might set up an appropriate ssh tunnel:

Let's say your home IP is 12.34.56.78 and iTunes uses port 3689 (which it does). Turn on Remote Login in the Sharing pane of system preferences, then, from your work computer:
Code:
ssh -L 3690:12.34.56.78:3689 12.34.56.78
Then... erk. A problem arises. Is it just me, or did iTunes 4.1 remove the "Connect to shared music" option altogether, and now only works via rendezvous? In that case, a VPN it'll have to be. However, if I'm wrong about that, connect to "daap://localhost:3690".

Edit: Aha. Open Stream (command-U) should do the trick.

Is ssh the same as vpn? I am a little confused. Is ssh just to log into your computer directly and vpn is to "log" into a network?

Also, how do I get ssh for windoze?

Thanks

Putty is an excellent ssh/telnet client for Windows: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~s.../download.html
