Need help joining guest network

So I'm at an open wi-fi spot that brings up a login screen when you join the network, which works on my iPhone, but when I join on my mac, nothing happens. Please god, help me, I can't handle browsing on my phone any longer.

There's nowhere to enter that. On my iPhone safari forwards to a login screen. I have the credentials, just no opportunity to enter them.

No, nothing checked under system prefs > network > proxies

Good lord, I managed it fussing around with the network assistant. Not sure I could do it again if I tried. It popped up in some odd pseudo page and not in the browser.

Every such situation I've had (hotels, cruise ships), attempting to open any page in the browser will immediately redirect to the login page that the iOS devices display when you connect to the Wi-Fi.

You didn't mention having simply tried to access a website.
I thought it was a subtle way of suggesting something that may have been obvious, and maybe not.
You apparently found an entirely different way of seeing it as insulting.
Meh. I give up.

You could connect to wifi on the iPhone then USB tether to the Mac.
Or when the iPhone pops up with a login screen, see if you can take note of any kind of address. Sometimes if the computer won't automatically redirect to the wifi login screen, if you can find the login screen address, you can type it in and that will work (something like "webauthentication.youareatahotel.com"). It's happened to me at hotels before.

Another idea... turn on developer tools, set the agent to iPhone. Log in. Set the agent back to desktop.

It's also worth pointing out that most such redirection software appears to live at level 3 of the OSI model. This means that you have to try to open a web page with a domain name that the local DNS can resolve. My work laptop is set to a corporate intranet homepage (and is restored t that if you try to change it), which means that the login page doesn't come up if you open the browser. You have to actually type Apple or something into the location bar to trigger the login page.

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
