After a bit of use of my new PowerBook, i have to say that occasionally the surface gets a bit of buildup of condensation from my hands and stuff, and it often leaves a bit of a residue on the surface of the machine...

Does anyone have any recommendations for cleaning the powerbook Al surface? is it okay to use a slighty moistened cloth? All suggestions/recommendations are welcome, i'd like to hear what people do with their machines.

I clean all my computer equipment and LCD/CRT screens with a lint free 100% cotton towel and water. I've been doing this for years. When my TiBook get dirty I wipe it down with a damp towel. Some people recommend iKlear for LCD screens, but water works and it is free. I use tap water that has been filtered through a Brita or PUR filter.

I'd be tempted to try damping (only a little) a cloth with a slightly soapy solution - make sure it's not wet though!!!

Spray a little hairspray on a soft towel and rub the mark off.

On the outside and trackpad/keyboard I use Clorox wipes. They not only clean but they disinfect also.

What do you use to disinfect it? With a 17", it could go all sorts of places and you wouldn't want to pick up any nasty 'residue' on it.

1. Wash your hands.
2. Don't eat potato chips while typing.

you can wash your hands all you want before you start working on the PB. however, that's not gonna stop oil from getting on the keys.

So, I have to restate the question posted earlier on how to appropriatly clean off the keys.

Just cleaned my 15" SD after 3 months of constant usage. Two bits of toilet paper. 1 dampened with tap water, the other dry. Just run the damp paper over the PB and then dried off with the other. Looks like brand new. No marks, no scratches. Just clean.

Make sure it's just a rinse cycle - otherwise you might damage it.

To clean the moist condensation residue on the outside of the PowerBook, I just use the outside of my RadTech PowerSleevz (see http://www.radtech.us/powersleevz.html ) (USD$24.95 + shipping).

To keep the screen from getting fingerprints from the keyboard, I use their Laptop ScreensavRz (see http://www.radtech.us/screensavrz-laptop.html ) (USD$17.95 + shipping).

To clean the surface around the screen and keyboard, I use LensCrafters Pre-Moistened Disposable Towelettes (see http://www.lenscrafters.com/p_accessories.html ) (about USD$9.99 + tax for a 60-pack). These are designed for cleaning glass eyeglass lenses, but are gentle enough not to damage the PowerBook.

I haven't disinfected the PowerBook, and don't plan to do so yet. The LensCrafters disposable towlettes contain ethyl alcohol, which sanitizes as it cleans.

Not sure how well the new Alu keyboards hold up, but I often clean my home machine's keyboard and work G4 laptop keyboard with a small squirt of alcohol disinfectant gel on a tissue (just enough to dampen but not enough to wet).

A few wipes on the keyboard takes away all oil residue...

Cheers.

I'd be careful about using any chemicals on the screen or keys. If the silver paint starts coming off the keys, they'll look dark and smudged forever--and will glow oddly at night!

What about water that you set out for a night to remove CL can this be used to clean the keyboard. On a slightly damn papertowel maybe.

Can you vacume the keyboard on a laptop PB with out sucking the keys off. I do this to my desktops keyboard and it works fine.
