Really. As bad as Bush came off, if he'd had an earpiece, they might have used it to tell him to stop sighing and making faces. I think those are probably pleats on the back of his tailored jacket. Let's not stoop to Drudge's level, as tempting as it is.

...uh, do I really have to answer that? The wireless mics are used for recording spoken word, the mic on the podiums are used to project through the auditorium speakers. This is a standard setup in public speaking.

I don't think that's just the batteries. Bush always forgets what he's saying, if he's saying anything at all. When he has prepared words, however, he comes across in a much more entertaining way. Behold gems like this:

It is not a standard setup in a spoken-word TV setting. Generally, in a controlled environment, there is one mike. Per person.

Other than that, why would he wear a wireless *whatever* on his BACK, rather than tucked in his belt or jacket pocket or wherever?

I'm with the wardrobe malfunction theory, over and out.

Reading from a page. That one was fascinating. It got by the speechwriters and the proofreaders, too.

I've never heard of that. Why would they need 2 separate mics? They both go through the recording booth first.

No it's not. Especially if you have a mike on a podium in front of you. But I'm with the others here: nothing doing, let's not stoop to Drudge-level unfounded allegations.

Nice personal attack. It's even better that it come from someone who touts his morals and values on these boards.

For the record I have given a lot of public presentations and NEVER had a wireless mike when there was a podium mike. Never, not once in about 50 or so talks. So, in my experience it is NOT a standard thing. Feel better now?

Yes, that's much better. One should always qualify statements in their experience rather than make blanket statements of knowledge as you did.

Not rude at all -- give me a break. My statement was pretty wide-open, and stating that such a setup is standard is by no means implying that ALL setups are that way.

And you dems accusee US of being knee-jerking? Give me a break.

Someone show me a picture from the debate proving they were wearing wireless mikes. All pictures I have seen show no mikes on their ties or lapels. In addition, since when do you put the receiver or power supply on the guys back? Would be on his waist if there was one.

...I don't know why I keep bothering with this thread, but maybe since I'm an audiophile, I keep coming back. I will say, however, that GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND! Musician's Friend sells loads of them, too.

They have some that fit under the top button of your collar, they sell several types that you insert into your tie, many clip to the top button, many actually fit into the inside pocket of one's coat. As for the transmitter, many clip to one's belt, but the same models usually have a shoulder strap so that there isn't a transmitter cable dangling from the bottom of the jacket.

Why are we arguing over this? It's not like wireless mics are anything new and aren't a dime a dozen.

GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND!!

Looks like one of Bush's strings just snapped in that pic. Either that, or his back breaking under the weight of Kerry kicking his ass.
Who, or what actually won the US election? Intolerance. The Bush campaign was built around pushing God down people's throats; attacking Gays; and more Guns for the idiotic. Gays, Guns & God. Congratulations, you just participated in one big joke.

I know that when a speaker might move away from the podium it is standard practice to stick a wireless mic on him so you can still pick up audio. But in a setting like this where the speaker will be at the podium the whole time, do you really think they needed to put a wireless mic on him?

Why would you need a separate mic for recording vs. the audio going out to through the speakers?
