My partner's OE5 keeps quitting on startup with unknown error. I've tried compacting, both standard and advanced to no avail. When I remove the Database file it opens but of course there's no mail, addresses etc. I've tried importing into Eudora 5 but it comes up with an error ('problem with file'). Her email is vital for her and this is getting critical. I've searched the web andMSN's own (crappy) site.

Is there anyway the Database file can be fixed?( BTW, she did have a backup but in her haste and panic she accidentally replaced the good copy with the corrupted one...)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in seeing countless posts just like yours, I've yet to see anyone get the problem fixed. Welcome to the joys of M$'s crap.

I know it doesn't really help now, but in the future, I'd use Eudora. It stores its mail in text format, instead of one big database, thereby eliminating problems like this.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
