can I fit a 512 MB SDRAM chip to my ibook clamshell. It has 320MB already which is supposed to be the maximum but ive heard it can support more. This would make the panther faster.

Would the RAM chips from the later ibooks fit or what other RAM make/model would I have to source?

This site lists some for the different iBooks (you can pick your particular one). The RAM modules seem to be the same as for the later G3 iBooks, but I wouldn't go on that alone, as some RAM you might come across might not be backwards compatible with the 66MHz bus.

You can install a 512 MB RAM module into ANY iBook. Even the original 300 MHz one that shipped with only 32 MB will work, at 544 MB (32 + 512). However, you probably want to pick up a 512 MB PC66 or maybe PC100 chip, because a PC133 might not work properly (it could only be half recognized). But if you can find a 512 MB PC66 module, it'll work fine.

Try these guys:

I have bought from them twice now. I have the 512MB module in my iBook 900. I put it in my friends 300MHz Blueberry and it worked perfect. Be careful buying from somewhere that doesn't support their 512MB module in the older clamshell models. If it doesn't work you have wasted money.
