Peter Griffin is the poor man's Homer Simpson. The number of times I've found any Family Guy gag to be of any comedic value is in the single digits - and that's being generous. Although, to be fair and accurate, the last four to five seasons of The Simspsons have brought Homer and the rest of the gang ever closer to that abysmal level.

I also vastly prefer Simpsons over Family Guy. But still, I crave entertainment and there's not a lot of Simpsons-episodes left that I haven't seen

I don't like how the show forces jokes down your throat. The writers will put in a little pop-culture reference which is somewhat funny, then they dwell on it for 10-15 seconds just to make sure that you got the joke. In that regard, the show reminds me of Conan O'Brien... he makes a joke, and rather than moving on he will pause his monologue and start reflecting on the joke ("Oh man, NBC is not going to like that" or "Wow, that is not a very attractive mental image").

Family Guy now is what The Simpsons used to be. I've seen the movie and it's pretty darn funny. I'll still be buying the DVD when it comes out. It just wouldn't be right otherwise.

Usually, movies that come from a TV series turn out to be fairly disappointing...

However, I'm glad to see that many of you found it interesting...because I'm going to have to watch it either way.

That's not it at all. Their "long" jokes are long because sometimes it's funny to drag a joke out beyond all reasonable expectation.

They have to do it that way so that people with slower-paced minds will pick up on the humor.

********. Their jokes are usually very fast-paced. Why would they slow things down like that for maybe one or two jokes per episode?

Right, like the chicken fight and the vomiting. They're funny because they went on so long. It's not like they said "We better make the fight 5 minutes long so everybody gets that it's a fight"

That was easily one of the best cartoon scenes ever.
