I googled and also searched the forums about this, but couldn't find anything relating to it.

I've set up an extended network, using two Airport Express stations, which is working fine.

My questions are:

Is there a way to make a setup like that secure?

How can i tell if somebody is using my network, are there any programs?

Use WPA? On both, of course. Take a look at this Apple Knowledgebase article on using both WPA and WDS at the same time. It might help.
