Don't have GFWL installed at all right now, so it shouldn't be that. No, I think it is that threading race condition thing where you have to hack the ini to make it understand that you have more than 2 cores. But thanks for the link, will check that when I get home.

Pachter predicts there will be no price drops at E3, next day MS announces permanent price drop for 500GB X1.

It appears to be the threading thing, which was indeed also in that link from Jawbone. Copied it here, FFR:

Code:
Edit with notepad: My Documents\my games\Fallout3\FALLOUT.INI or C:\users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Fallout3\FALLOUT.ini This may appear as "FALLOUT" in windows explorer. IMPORTANT: DO NOT EDIT Fallout_default.ini !!! You're in the wrong directory!!! find (control F) bUseThreadedAI=0 CHANGE to bUseThreadedAI=1 Immediately after this line, ADD this new line: iNumHWThreads=2

I just don't understand Pachter's value. How does he still have a voice?

From my understanding, the video game market is just a niche of his investment advice. And compared to everyone else, he somehow is the most plugged in. He seems to have two type of predictions: Wholly obvious to those of us into this hobby; Completely wrong-headed to those of us into this hobby. I have a feeling the former ones outnumber the latter, don't get reported on because "duh" and are useful to his audience because they are not plugged in to this sector.

So, bunch o' Halo news.

From now on, all Halos get betas.

Halo 5 will feature 20 maps (!) and DLC maps will be free (!) Reminds me of Halo 3 until they stopped doing it

Halo 5 will not feature split-screen co-op

Pretty god damn nice sounding to me.

Steam Summer Sale is on, and Rockstar has found a new way to appear extra shady. They increased the base price for GTA V to $80 and then took off 25%, so it is now just under it's regular $60, but pretends that you get 25% off. WTF is going on over there?

Not only is it scummy, it downright crazy to think no one would notice. Or say anything. I have to assume this is a marketing idiot and not top brass at play.

Well, you get GTA V and a bunch of in-game money to use in multiplayer. So you're essentially getting the game for full retail + $25 worth of microtransaction money, in the hope that you'll get hooked and buy more game cash. Also, buy redeeming the currency voucher you nullify your ability to return the game in Steam. That's the really shitty part.

Chris Avellone just announced that he has left Obsidian for an undisclosed opportunity. Pray to whatever deities you favor that it is somehow linked to Fallout 4.

At least for PC gamers its clear now that the Rift will work with Windows 10. I tried one for a couple of days and once its production ready, I wouldn't hesitate getting it (hopefully the GTX770 with 4GB will be good enough to run DCS A-10 !!).

Nope. Announced sys refs say 970 minimum (or 290 on the AMD side, so I just barely pass). I suspect that the issue here is the number of ROPs - many pixels means you need many ROPs. The 770 (like all powerful cards of its generation) has 32 ROPs, and both of the minimum cards have 64.

That said the Xbone only has 16, so I don't see how that will work.

Not exactly. Oculus has said that the entire system - PC with powerful enough hardware + the Oculus Rift itself - will cost roughly $1500. Checking a few build guides show that without the display, a "performance" gaming PC ends up at about $1300, leaving $200 in the budget for a Rift. Personally I think that that is a bit low, it will cost more, but it shouldn't be $500.

Fallout 4 release is November 10th. Among the more interesting news, you can use your smartphone as a real life Pip-boy. I wonder if that actually works well to switch weapons and the like? Because that interface has always been a weak spot in the Gamebryo games.

MS just upped the controller game. Check this thing out: Microsoft unveils new Xbox One Elite controller—and we’ve held it | Ars Technica

The paddles are also removable and replaceable, as are the controller's d-pad and twin joysticks—meaning players can switch between concave and convex joystick tops to suit their preferences. The Elite controller will ship with a total of three joystick-head options, along with two lengths of paddle and two types of d-pad—and they'll all come in a handsome carrying case, which will also include a "high-speed" USB cable. Like the updated standard controller, the Elite controller also includes a 3.5 mm headset jack. It'll also be compatible with Windows 10.

The other major hardware difference is a "hair-trigger" dial that lets players adjust how far they must press on the two trigger buttons before the system recognizes the presses as full. But this little tweak is only the beginning of the Elite controller's crazy sensitivity options.
The Elite controller will launch with an app that players will use to make all kinds of controller adjustments, all of which will be saved to the controller's firmware. The most basic option is the ability to reassign controller buttons wherever a user desires—and because this change exists on the controller itself, as opposed to within the console's settings, Microsoft engineers insist that this will reduce any lag issues caused by button reassignments.
That said, no price and I have a feeling that price may be LOL-worthy.

Whoa! MS not ****ing around this year.
Xbox 360 backward compatibility coming to Xbox One | Ars Technica
Gamers will have two ways of playing old games that are part of the backward-compatible initiative. If users already purchased the games digitally through Xbox Live, they can simply log in and re-download the game on Xbox One without paying any additional cost. If they own the game as a disc, they'll have to download the game to their Xbox One hard drive, and the system will then check for the disc before launching the game.
Bit too late, though.

Only caught the Doom and Dishonored 2 reveals before I went to bed, I'm watching the F4 segment now.

Doom actually impressed me. Noisey SJWs have been crossing their arms and frowning at Doom for two decades now, the fact this pushed their buttons is a good sign. Movement speed is up to original form and some jumping/platforming looks to be a main feature. People might forget that Doom, and more-so Doom 2, had plenty of 'platforming' despite the inability to jump. At the same parts the crowd was cheering I found myself chuckling at the over the top finishing animations, and the chainsaw, well....it was gruesome.

Dishonored 2 looks to be pretty boilerplate sequel material and their current offering of the original game remastered with DLC hardly sounds appealing.

The original Doom was cartoonish violence. The more realistic it gets, the weirder it gets. That said, a lot of this is because it is Doom and we all knew what to expect beforehand. You can do some pretty gruesome things with a sword in something like Dragon Age, and that is never an issue.

What are those green switches on the back of the Elite controller for? Maybe this will push Sony to update their current controller. Preferably one without that stupid battery life sucking LED.

I'm wondering, I heard rumors that the new XBOX controller was going to have a standard mic jack. Now, obviously this one does, but if this means the reg cheap one will not, that is extra hilarious.

It's been in the oven for almost a decade now, so it's *obviously* ready.

I used my PS3 for media playback 90% of the time, the other 10% was for SotC.
