Al Gore 'left car engine running during hour-long environmental lecture' | Mail Online
Green-minded campaigner Al Gore has been left red-faced after being accused of leaving his car running for almost an hour while he gave a lecture on sustainable development.
It is alleged that Gore made the gaffe while he spoke at the Gothenburg Award for Sustainable Development in Sweden on October 10.
His mistake was compounded further by the fact that he had asked his distinguished guests to attend the event by public transport in order to minimize CO2 emissions.

IMO, it's only hypocrisy if Gore intended to leave the car running. Otherwise it's just a kind of irony. And funny, of course.

It's not hypocritical, it's ironic.

No it's not.
And here's a formal request for you colonials to stop using the word "ironic" until you've figured out what it means.

Oxford disagrees with you.
As one of the definitions: "a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often wryly amusing as a result."

You realize there are different kinds of irony. This particular event is dramatic irony. Al Gore didn't realize the car was running while he gave a lecture on green energy.

Proof? Source? Eyewitnesses? Quotes? Anything?
Why would someone leave there car running for an hour? What possible reason is there? It doesn't even make sense?
If it was an accident then yes, it's funny. And stupid. If it was on purpose, then it's a terrible display of hypocracy on the worst level, but why would someone do that?

I think part of the irony lies with the fact that Gore is driving a car while telling his honored guests to take the bus in the first place. Leaving it on, now thats just movin right on to comedy!

Source was already provided and I'm guessing by your questions, you're having an awfully hard time believing it.

I'm having a hard time believing Gore doesn't travel with a retinue, secret service, staff, etc, whose job it would be to keep track of the car's whereabouts and engine-running status.

Considering Gore's action is a crime where he spoke, the article couldn't justifiably or ethically use any other language. He hasn't thus far denied it, has he?

Never mind that he flew a few thousand miles to give a speech about carbon footprints. It's a shame he hasn't got any connections in Silicon Valley - I'm sure someone there could have sorted him out with some kind of telepresence system for the job.

It's also a shame that Mr Gore doesn't know anybody who invented a long-distance data transport network which would allow things like telepresence to be used.

Is that a reference to irony?
Global warming has been verified, that's what science is. I don't really care if you're convinced or not, but it does have corroboration. This story doesn't yet.

Well the source is a posting on a website called ClimateDepot.com (which is a reprint from CFACT.EU) both of which seem to be solely dedicated to being opposed to the global warming movement. The original story also cites nothing as any sort of proof. Who noticed the car? Who was there?
The burden of proof would seem to be on the person writing this story, and he has provided nothing even remotely resembling a source or proof.
Maybe it's true maybe it's not. Who knows. For all we know the whole thing is completely made up.

Are we holding a trial for Mr. Gore now in the court of NN opinion?
If only you'd hold MMGW to the same standard of proof as you do this news article.

He left it running for an hour and no one stole it? Sweden is doing something right. In America the car would have been ripped, stripped, and clipped in a New York minute. Mr. 'Green' seems to always have his mind on getting rid of dirt and grime and grease in just a minute ( from his hair). So it's not surprising to me that he made a faux pax and passed gas for an hour.

Well, I don't think that Fernando will be able to hold out for that long being in Al Gore's back seat and making engine noises to fool everybody...
