i was trying to upgrade from 10.0.4 to 10.1. installed 10.0.4 onto different partition than os 9. popped in 10.1 cd, restarted computer, got a kernal panic! reinstalled 10.0.4 onto same drive as os 9. same thing happened! any ideas?

here are my machine specs:

G4 450 sawtooth rev a.
896 megs ram
firmware 4.1.9f1

any help will be appreciated!

If you have any chance to install 10.0.3 and then install 10.1 directly over it, this is the best thing you can do.

As already discussed, installing 10.1 over 10.0.4 seems to make 10.1 slower than it should, or it's even not possible at all.

From my experience, it has nothing to do with where you Classic system is. Maybe on the same partition, maybe on a different one, both works withme.

Try to use a clean partition, format it before installing 10.0.3 (or 10.0.4 if this is the only one you have available) and then try to install 10.1 over it.
