Students attend school's first integrated prom - CNN.com
Wow. Black and White proms, I had no idea that still occurred. I could understand separate after-prom parties (since high school cliques are often divided by race), but to have separate proms and separate homecoming queens is well, sad.
At least its the kids who are pushing for an integrated, school-backed prom. Its good to see the younger generation moving away from racism and segregation.

I saw that piece earlier and I thought the same thing. Sadly, many people of my generation (baby boomer) are long set in their ways.

It's the Deep South. So I'm not surprised it's taken them a while to catch up on such issues.

You're encouraged by this? I was sickened an appalled. I guess I was just naive to think this kind of thing was something of the past. And the white students still had their own prom without the blacks. Ugh... humanity can be disappointing.

I was encouraged that it was the students who are pushing for change. The fact that in 2007 they had to push for an integrated prom is most definitely appalling.

'My mommy and daddy -- they don't agree with being with the colored people,'
Ah yes, the South shall rise again.
I can just imagine the attendees introducing their dates to one another:
Cletus: "This here is Brandine. She's my sister, uh, cousin, uh..."
Zeke: "Hi Mamma - I thought you was goin to be at the Sip 'n Swaller tonight?"

Well, it looks like, not only is racism alive and well, but its twin brothers, ignorance and faux superiority, are alive and kicking as well.

I suspect it's more likely taste in music than skin color.
Two different cultures.
I'd want rock not that rap shet.

Its a prom, not a concert. The point of a prom is to dance with girls and go crazy. I am going to go out on a limb and say that the majority of people that go to proms don't have too much a problem listening to rap music. I went to private all guys prep school, we had one black kid in my class, and they played mostly rap at my prom. I am not sure what we would have done if they didn't.
