I had chills go up and down my spine when I watched this last night.
And yes, I'll be honest...I had to wipe a tear away.

I fully expected him to choke and not even start, with the way they did the cameras showing people waiting while the music started. Thought it would be just a funny clip.

Jeez, some of you people sound like you've never heard an opera before. You know, the exact opposite of American Idol; real vocalists accompanied by actual music. Check it out sometime. Those surprisingly amazing chills that you can't get enough of may return!

I think it may have been more a issue of what people expected than the fact they have never heard opera before. Here you've got this rather plain, unassuming cell phone salesman, who by his own admission has problems with confidence. And he opens his mouth and blows everyone away. Even that douche bag Simon said "I wasn't expecting that".

I'm very pleased for this fellow, even if he doesn't win. I can only imagine the elation he must of felt. He was probably mortified to be up there at all, and to have all those those people on their feet cheering for him, not to mention people wiping tears from their eyes. He must of been on top of the world. Good for you dude. Even if he doesn't win, I bet this goes a long way to fixing his confidence problem.

I love opera, and that was pretty dang cool. Good for him.

Wow, what a voice. Even when compared to Pavarotti, Carreras or Caruso, what a voice. Paul sounds much like Placido Domingo to my ear. Great find.

Wow, thats definitely something unexpected on a show like that.

But I noticed that the female judge kept referring to him as something ugly that will turn into something beautiful. "What we have here is a lump of coal that will turn into a diamond." and "...like a toad that will turn into a Prince!" -- Ouch! I know those were meant to be compliments, but damn she could've only used one ugly-to-pretty analogy and gotten her point across.

But anyways, that was pretty cool to see. I don't watch American Idol, but I'm familiar with out Simon reacts to most people. And to see him react so positively is pretty cool.
