So I just got Snow Leopard for christmas. on the packaging it states graphics improvements with OpenCL (?) and 64-bit compatibility.

Now, I'm running a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz.

Am I already taking advantage of my newly unleashed 64-bit processor? Or is it mainly for future application?

EDIT: Ohhh, I get it now. All core applications are now 64-bit. My post was mainly concerning Final Cut Pro and a game, Bioshock.

Yes, you're correct. Some third-party apps are also 64-bit as well.

and the kernel doesn't boot x64 unless you hold 6 & 4 at startup (or make a setting change using the terminal or one of the free programs out there that will do it for you with a button click.

You probably don't want the kernel to boot 64-bit. It can still run 32-bit apps normally, and you don't need totally new drivers for everything.

QFT. The OP doesn't sound like somebody who should be using the 64 bit kernel.

This is why my 64bit machines are running either Windows or Linux.

...not really, however I really appreciate that in Linux I can ./configure+make+make install any OS driver I want.

Huh?

The 3GS is faster because it has more RAM and a faster CPU. The 3G and 3GS both run the same OS.

SL is faster than Leopard in certain situations due to optimizations in software. In terms of user-frindliness SL and Leopard are pretty much on par. And Google has nothing to do with any of this.
