Nilay Patel, No Longer Managing Editor of The Verge, Moves to Vox.com | Re/code

That's a drag. Especially if him and Topolsky are at loggerheads. I've definitely noted they haven't been on the Vergecast together for over a month.

I think it's problematic if he strays too far from tech. His lawyer cred is something the tech blogosphere needs.

Why is it problematic if he strays from Tech? I like the Verge for this very fact, the works where they attempt to analyze and explain certain points that concern tech-affine people (or just plain everyone).
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

The Verge is a Vox publication. He's not going that far.

I'm not 100% sure I understand your statement.

As for the question, as I said, he's one of the best tech-law pundits. We need good tech-law pundits.

He really is one of the best tech journalists out there. I love how he really goes right for the jugular on most of the things he writes.

I'm pretty sure Paul Miller is no longer with the Verge as well.

I like Topolsky, but he's probably a pain to work with. He seems to have a super strong personality and a big ego... and since Patel does too I could see how they might clash...

They also just put the Vergecast on hiatus to retool the show. It did feel like it was sort of running out of steam lately, and they are all more or less bored with the current tech landscape. That said, I kind of like it when they go off the rails.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

Sorry, I mistook your statement for »I like his work, but only if he doesn't stray too far from tech.« (Blame my jetlag.) I'm in perfect agreement with you.

Maybe it's just his shtick, but he comes off as more than a little quirky in his podcasts. Sometimes I can't tolerate it, but other times when they discuss a salient point or an important topic, it's alright.

I really like his on-screen persona. I think he's a really funny and smart guy... but that said, I also think a lot of the other people (his employees) on the show are a little scared of him. He's always making these, ha ha I'm the boss jokes... but I'm not sure they're always jokes. I really think he's a little manic and bonkers and completely full of himself.

All of the people who would call him on his shit are gone now. Nilay, Paul and Joanna. Everyone else is one of his underlings and I think I can always sense some hesitation and trepidation in their demeanor when they are on. Like they can't stand up to his force of will. If you listen to the show, when Nilay isn't on there, it's pretty much Josh talking for 90% of it.

Vox Media own The Verge so I don't see why it's a really big deal.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what matters more to me is whether he's with the particular outfit I patronize (The Verge).
