Manufacturers usually do a rust-prevention treatment to the undersides of their cars, typically either as the parts are completed or before the painted parts are installed. And those cars are the ones you see with rust everywhere. A quality rust proofing to the underbody is something like Rhino Lining, but is applied to the completed vehicle by an aftermarket vendor. In places like Chicago that use salt for ice control on the roads, it's probably a good idea to get something applied aftermarket to take care of the spaces and joints that factory treatments don't get.

Tangentially related:

Anyone have recommendations on a Bluetooth mic which deflects wind noise?

Whatever works, ya know?

I hate sticking things in my ears, so a speakerphone dealie would be ideal, but wind attenuation is what matters most.

As an aside, can't be arsed to write the actual joke, but the punchline is "aural sodomy".

Let's make this really easy for you. Two musicians. One books small local venues that can hold 100 people and sells out every show. The second one books 100,000-person arenas and fills them to 90% capacity every time.

Who has more followers? Who is making more money?

That analogy doesn't fit at all.

I don't particularly want to get caught in the crossfire, but around here:

City/local suburbs dealerships: Small, crammed in small lots. Usually only luxury or common brands (Honda, BMW)

Further suburbs/Country dealerships: plenty of room for miles and miles of cars, parking lots the size of small towns. Families of cars on one street, dealerships lined up.

When car shopping it was all about the suburbs for us. Except that CRV test drive.

Most of the places I pondered going to (and both places I ended up) were in BFE.

It isn't though, most car dealerships around here are small, 30-50 cars, max. Likely it's because of tax laws and dealers being required to pay sales tax if a car sits on their lot for too long. Our Fiat/VW/Audi dealer (there's only 1) has ~40 new cars at any given time and most of those are basic grocery-getters.

Yeah... way different here (30 miles outside the city). The Ford and Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/Ram dealerships were ginormous.

At the Ford dealer we drove from the showroom to where the commercial vehicles were stashed.

****, yeah...

The show I packed this for just got canceled. Maybe I'll yank everything out and place it in an array for comparison to my other load-out.

This does makes me think I don't really have room for shelves.

The lighter one under the table (in the background) appears to be Ottoman, maybe ~late 18th or early 19th century (or a decent replica made with a quality veg dye).

Shelves may help you pack better, and avoid the "throwing things on top in garbage bags" scenario? I see a lot of space at the top being unused. Unless of course, you know, that's for visibility.

Heh...

The garbage bag is an unusual one.

It's filled with towels. Not part of the regular load.

Just to balance out the rugfest a little bit, I'd like to say that I hate your rugs. But on the bright side, great packing skills and you definitely made the right choice with your van!

Thank you! I used to be truck loading bitch back in the day.

The van has made decisions like "let's bring seats for the musicians which don't look like they belong at a picnic, and throw in a 6-foot merch table while we're at it" not only possible, but casual.

I think any wagon you got would not have been able to hold all that, without severe tetris and a roof rack.

I just showed the rug comment to a Persian friend, who's from a family that started trading rugs in the days of the silk road. He was most impressed with the rug identification prowess displayed here.

I hate the intricate Turkish/Persian rugs as a general rule. But my taste runs more to modern and sleek with bold patterns. Obviously that is not really what they are about.

EDIT : so that I don't have to trawl though the previous posts, what car/van did you actually get?

It's the Ram Promaster City, which is what they call the Fiat Doblò here in the states.

I was designated packer during family vacations. The key I found was to get everything together so you can plan before putting anything in. You're load is going to be mostly the same right?

The "getting everything together" ends up conjoined with my system not to forget things. It all goes in a big pile so I can do a mental check.

The loadout actually varies a fair amount.

Props and photography/video stay the same. Lights come most of the time, but not for an outdoor, daytime show like this one was supposed to be. For this gig we needed to bring our own sound system, mics, etc., but most venues already have that. Same with a merch table. Most venues have a table you can steal for the duration.
