Anyone else notice how slow browsing is anymore? I know it's not just me cause many people are complaining about it, with various ISP's and various connection speeds. It just seems to be getting slower and slower. Maybe it's because of all those stupid worms romping about....
So who else is experiencing this?

I'm not bashing you or anything, but maybe it has something to do with Windows?
The internet is speedy for me on my Mac.

No, because some of my friends use macs and are experiencing the same. Now maybe the slow responding sites are running worm infested windows versions... who knows.
Or maybe it's just my shitty town.

Well, thats the most reasonable explanation I've heard to date.
That must be the cause!

For one thing pages are much heavier now than they used to be. Just one page on these forums runs from 100k to 180k - just text.

Nets not exactly slower.
Just lots of bad coding. As developers move to broadband. They forget many aren't. So they design pages that are in some cases 200k... when they should be up to 50k.
So the net may load slower. But it's not a slower net, it's bad coding.
Not to mention some stupid DHTML, CSS usage makes page rendering slow in cases... making the web appear to be even slower.
And websites with inadequate bandwidth due to economic issues... adds to it as well.

If only T3 connection is cheap for everyone to get, that would be great! My old college used it, now that I'm not going there anymore... I miss it...

The net is slowing down because of the GD MF spam that clogs it like a stopped up toilet. Plus the GD banners on every GD web page are getting larger and more annoying.
The net is really starting to suck, but it does suck slightly less on a Mac with Safari.

Nah. Most of those large banners still adhere to decent file sizes... Doesn't slow down much unless your running less than 56k.
Spam may be big on the backbone... but not enough to be signifigant.

I initially came here for advise and knowledge on the mac platform cause I was gonna switch a few years ago. Then I kept waiting for a decent machine to come out. Now the G5 is out and I'm gonna buy one, but I'm waiting till the 2nd revision.
I still use macs in various places I go. But I love my PC too.

exactly.
Some pages take way too long to load, then some just load half way, yet the progress bar has stopped.
It's not all sites, so maybe it has to do with worms or something infecting certain servers...

I'm experiencing it all the time with eBay recently. Like I mean 5 minute waits for some pages on ADSL.

You want faster connection? than use this:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/mo...acintosh/12591
BroadbandOptimizer, I installed it on my Panther just today, and it runs really well without any problems. I also experienced a nice speed increase. Try it out. Just remember, once you install it, you need to restart your computer. Just read the readme file on it once you download it. I also changed my setting to 49152. I think this is the best speed setting for me, you guys should try it too. Yup... almost feel like I'm using a T3 again...

Yeah, it has... since I hit my bandwidth cap and got knocked back to 28.8Kbps... suckage.
Adam: If anything, the web is MUCH faster on Windows than on Macs.

I hate download caps. With a passion. At least you don't pay per MB you download over your cap :|
