Ok, so I'm really big on watching music videos, streaming music through my surround sound from my laptop, etc. I have a couple programs that allow me to stream my music, pictures, and some videos to my PS3 and XBox 360...but try as I will, I just can't find a way to stream my iTunes purchased music videos to my TV.

I am considering getting an Apple TV. I like the idea of being able to set up slide shows, listen to music with cover art displayed on the TV, and I like the idea of being able to watch my iTunes purchased music videos, movies, TV shows, etc. on my TV!

My question is this...would an Apple TV be my best media center solution (or maybe not "best" per se, but a good viable option)? I'm thinking of getting the 160gb refurb Apple TV (160gb is enough to fit all of my media easily). I want something simple, "elegant" in its operation, and something I can easily transfer media to from my MBP.

Also, is now a good time to purchase an Apple TV? I know it has remained largely unchanged for quite some time. Is the general consensus that its going to remain unchanged for the foreseeable future, or is there potentially an upgrade on the horizon. I really don't follow these things very closely so I'm a bit out of the loop.

Yup...Apple did a good job on the Mac Mini (except pricing it) and here's to hoping they mirror that in the AppleTV.

Thanks for the heads up! I was considering a Mac Mini but yeah, a little too pricey for my needs. I'm in no real hurry so I'll probably just hold tight and see if they release a newly deigned Apple TV sometime in the next few months.

Nice find. I guess I'll just sit back and watch it unfold before I make any moves.

The current version is quite dated (less capable for playing videos than even the iPhone) and the rumors are pretty strong about it being updated soon.

There were rumors of an update last fall, too, that didn't pan out.

Thats my concern. I'm not really one to play the waiting game for the next revision of a product to come out...but I also don't want to wait forever. Are there any Apple events slated for the near future that this could potentially be announced at?

The logic back then was that it would announced with iTunes/iPod centric event in September. This still makes sense to me.

The new wrinkle is the rumors of some type of cloud service which may or may not be "iTunes Live" which I would think would warrant its own event (That a new Apple TV could conceivably be a "one more thing" at).

So yeah, have fun with that.
