So, after years of use, my 360 finally got the RROD. I sent it in and paid the $100 to get it fixed since it was out of warranty. They mailed it back via UPS. However, they did not ship it with any insurance and did not require a signature upon a delivery...the UPS person just left it on my doorstep. I see the "delivered" status on the tracking info and get excited to rush home and pick it up. I get home and the package is nowhere to be found. I live in an apartment building...and I am 99% certain my hoodrat (and now evicted) neighbors across the hallway stole it from my doorstep. Neighbors have been evicted and I was informed that one of them was sent to jail after being caught stealing tools and other things from people around the apartment complex, so its pretty safe to assume this jackass took the package. Sooo I filed a police report and a complaint with Microsoft. After a little "back and fourth" with Microsoft, I got an email from them two days ago saying they would be shipping me a new Xbox and a 3 month XBL token "for my troubles".

I'm a bit annoyed because I have been without my Xbox for well over two months now, but this doesn't seem like too bad of a resolution. I'm somewhat (but not totally) surprised that they used such a "low security" shipping method.

Anyone else ever have an experience like this?

That's a good resolution. Simply put, they use a "low security" method because it's cheaper. Most XBoxes they ship don't get stolen. The money they save on shipping charges more than makes up for having to replace one out of pocket every once in a while.

I went around the horn a bunch of times with FedEx over the course of a week because they just left it in front of my door. About a grand worth of electronics which I needed immediately, not a week later while you try and hunt down the delivery person.

FedEx is all set to pay off on the insurance claim, and I'm reordering the gear from the manufacturer.

Them: "Do you want me to send it to the same address?"

Me: "Yes."

Them: "So, that's [address]?"

Me: "Oh, shi..."

I had had the damn thing delivered to my dad's.

What's with FedEx or UPS leaving stuff on the door.

In NZ, they call when they arrive at your address. If you're there, they drop it off. If not, they continue on their round and you have to catch them on the rebound.

I know this cos one times I was just a few minutes late and the van was already hauling off down the street. I chased it on foot to a red light.

And that was just for a visa—a piece of paper.

If its value able and you see UPS / Fedex, go to the site and have them redirect it to a local office for you to pick it up there. Or have it delivered to work.

Good customer service? Sounds like socialism to me.

I'll drop this beauty on you since we're starting to broaden the topic here.

I bought a car this summer, out of state. At some point it was arranged they'd send me the papers to register it in PA, and it turned out they were going to arrive the day I got back from vacation (good, as UPS' attitude towards dropping things off at my place is to throw a glance at the door and if nothing happens floor it outta there).

Thursday, I'm waiting round in my computer room adjacent to the stairs as that's the only way I'll hear if they knock. At some point I take a brief nap, wake-up and of course I missed them in that four hour window they usually visit. Look at the sticker and they checked that they needed a signature and that they'd return the next day either in the morning or the afternoon. They checked 8 hours worth of options.

So Friday I'm bumming around doing the same thing, this time for most of the morning and early afternoon, running to the damned window every time I hear a diesel van pass by. Finally I'm living my life in one of the other rooms when I hear the diesel van. Shotgun down the hallway, stairs, to the door, open up the door see them about to pull away and wave them down.

"I slid it under the door," the Lady replies.

What. The. ****.

I called the main delivery center in my area and asked them to hold the package for me. The 19 year old girl with 250 lbs of attitude on the other line ASSURED me they would hold it there for me...they did not hold it there. lol

Fed Ex leaves things on my doorstep too. Before this happened I ordered a new MBP and almost let them just leave it at my doorstep because I used to live in an apartment in this same building on a different floor and we never had any issues with this and I knew all of my neighbors. I'm glad I called them and asked them to hold it at their delivery center and they actually held it for me.

That's the hilarious part for me. I live above a store and when FedEx can't find me, they always leave it with the store. UPS leaves a sticker.

Had UPS leave a Dyson air multiplier on my door today. The company didn't even bother to put it in a brown box, they just shipped it in the retail packaging for all to know what was on my doorstep.

I always have stuff shipped to my work. When I used to ship stuff to my home I would always miss it, get the sticker they tried to delivery, then miss it the next day and have to go to the depot to pick it up. The last time I had something shipped to my home was the real piss off, after waiting for hours for the delivery I went to 7-11 for 6 minutes, seriously 6 minutes, it was only 150 meters away and as I returned the UPS truck was leaving and I had missed the delivery again.

If you work retail or like at a McDonalds sure, but I work in a office and its common place with all the employee's to ship stuff at work. Actually almost every office environment I have ever worked at it was common place to have stuff shipped to the work address. But I can see the issues for retail jobs and other types of job that it wouldn't really work very well to do that.

It became such an issue at the office I work at they had to send two memos to get people to stop shipping items to work, bogging down our mail clerks with non-work related items.

hum sucky. I guess the alternative is better, having employees leave work in the middle of the day to pick up packages then

I believe people do get lunch hours. I know my job is flexible enough thatI can leave work for an extended lunch hour so long as I make up the time. Seems more reasonable than wasting company resources.

I guess it all depends on how large a place and the kind of work that is done too. I really don't see it being a extra burden on a company resources, but I would accept a company not allowing it to avoid the issue of lost, stolen or broken deliveries occurring between point of acceptance to delivery to person to when it safely leaves the work place to some ones home. Liability can be a concern.

My brother and I had ordered about $1200 in various computer parts for a client. We run our business out of our home. UPS left $1200 in computer parts on our door step.

But don't worry! They hit it under the door mat. That way no one would find it.

I have things delivered to work, but I try not to overwhelm. I only use it for things that could get ruined by weather, or surprises where the picture is on the box. Sometimes for home I will leave a note on the door telling UPS or whoever to put the box by the back door (covered from weather), they used to do this on their own but not as often now. Considering the videos of UPS/Fedex hurling packages out the window and driving away, I'm content with the doorstep.

Lowered expectations!

^ But it wasn't because I was in a rural area.

I was in the Central Business District of Auckland.
