Does anybody know if a Sun Cobalt web server will work with OS X?

Define "work with". I have a Cobalt Qube who's web server works just fine. It's Apache, it works as it should.... what exactly are you trying to accomplish?

I am looking for a server that can act as a network backup of all work station files and double as a web and possibly an email server at the same time. I am also looking at it as a possible voip server/router.

My Qube wouldn't be any good for a voip server/router, nor a NAS to back up all files to.
I believe the entire Cobalt lineup is officialy EOL'ed, so I wouldn't start building a future on one of them right now. I'd be looking at something else.

I'm aware of the lines EOL status. But why couldn't it function as I would like it to? What are the real issues here?

Maybe the raq would be big enough to back up a small network, but a qube isn't.
A voip router should have QOS in it, I don't know that to be in the Cobalt line.
Exactly how would you back up to it? Manual file copies to a mounted share? Backups should be automatic and transparent, in my book.

Why couldn't you set up the internal disk as a shared resource? I also believe that the Cobalt servers can handle external raids as well.
As far as VOIP is concerned, I am assuming that I could run a piece of software on this box called "Asterisk" which would tern it into a PBX. Is this not possible? Or is there something about these servers that can not be modified?

Asterisk might work in it... biggest thing I learned about the Cobalt line is to be careful if you want to perserve the GUI functionality. It's easy to upgrade PHP and hose the GUI.
Yes, you can set up the internal disk as an AFP or SMB share.
