This is one thing I've pondering on lately. Are Bluetooth keyboards safe to use? When I say safe, I'm talking about data protection.

I've been wanting some form of wireless keyboard set-up (the official Apple one in particular) for a while now, but the safety aspects are what is putting me off making the puchase.

Is all data transmitted encrypted, and if so, to what degree? There are geniuses out there, so is it possible that the encryption can be broken/decoded, in any way?

Thanks for any insights you can give.

I understand that bluetooth keyboard keystrokes can be logged by an outsider computer with the right software and equipment, but honestly, i think you are being over cautious. The range of a bluetooth keyboard is usually around 30 feet, and unless you are wanted by the CIA or FBI or something, the chances of your keystrokes being logged by someone are very remote. If you are wanted by the FBI or CIA, then just look out of the window when you are using your Mac and look out for black cars with tinted windows!

I have no idea about bluetooth encryption and decoding, but I don't see what your concern is with using a BT keyboard. Relax and enjoy your computer.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I guess you're right. I'm too paranoid about things like that!

Heh, don't worry though, I'm not being watched by the CIA or FBI. I'm merely concerned about bank details and the like being retrieved by the wrong hands.

Thanks for your insight.

Apple keyboards, I believe, do use some form of encryption (encoded via the passkey when pairing for the first time). Its not NSA or CIA proof, but more than good enough for peace of mind.
