I see all of the iPod mini topics, but none had this news! In my ADC newsletter, Apple says:
100,000 Pre-orders for New iPod mini
The iPod mini, the world's smallest portable music player ever to
hold up to 1,000 CD-quality songs, began shipping on Friday,
February 20. Apple has received more than 100,000 pre-orders for the
iPod mini, which was introduced last month.

How cool is this?I am hoping to become an owner of one some day soon... Green or Blue would rule!

That doesn't mean a hell of a lot. They sold over 100,000 imacs before they shipped and to this date I don't think the sales ever climbed at that pace again (basically more like a mountain jump and then they slid down again)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here...and say I predict the iPod mini to be Apple's best selling product ever.

I think it will once it gets below the $200 price point. I bought one today and love it though.

He can't afford a digital camera.
On Topic: I think we'll see the price reduction before xmas, and with luck, a larger version-- perhaps 6 GB? I don't think Apple will sit on their hands here. Sales figures a month from now will be interesting. Does anybody know how the retail stores did Friday evening and Saturday? Have they sold out?

Why would you think he'd be lying about his rig?
Lots of us are Appleholics and have more equipment than necessary. Or, have a lot of hardware necessary for work.
Me:
-Dual 2.0GHz G5, 22" Cinema, 1.5GB RAM, SuperDrive, 160GB SATA HD, 120GB WD JB1200 HD in FireWire case, Radeon 9600 Pro, iSight, 3G 20GB iPod, D-Link bluetooth module, Apple wireless BT keyboard, MX700 mouse, Logitech Z-560 THX speakers, Adaptec 4-port USB 2.0 PCI card, MacOS X 10.3.
-iBook G3 600, 640MB RAM, 15GB HD, Combo drive, Airport, MacOS X 10.3.
-Blue & white G3 @ 900MHz (PPC750fx), 576MB RAM, 60GB HD, ACard UltraATA PCI, Radeon Mac Edition PCI, 17" Studio display w/ DVI-ADC adapter, Apple USB keyboard (from G5), MX300 mouse, MacOS X 10.3, ProSoft Novell OS X client.
-AMD AthlonXP 2600+, Asus nforce2 mobo, 120GB WD JB1200 HD, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, 24x black Sony CDRW, 16x black Sony DVD-ROM, Directron silver aluminum case, black MS Office keyboard and wireless explorer mouse, Dell 18.1" 1800FP LCD monitor, D-Link 802.11b PCI card, Altec-Lansing speakers + sub, WinXP Pro, Office 2003.
-Dell Latitude D800 notebook, 1.7GHz Pentium-M, 1GB RAM, 40GB HD, 15.4" LCD @ WUXGA (1920 x 1200), internal 802.11b, internal bluetooth, Combo drive, GeForce4 4200 Go GPU, docking station w/ Dell 17" 1703FP LCD, Logitech Elite keyboard, MS wireless explorer mouse, WinXP Pro, Office 2003.
And it all gets used. The Dell Latitude and the B&W are at the office; the G5, the iBook and the home-brew AMD are at home.
It's not so hard to imagine that many (most) of us here on MacNN require computers, often several, for our livelihood.
