Repair disk permissions takes less than 3-4 minutes on the PBG4 1.67 with 80GB HD. It takes 10-15 minutes on the MBP 2.4 with 150 GB HD. Both computers are running 10.5.2 and it has been this way since I bought the MBP last year.

What's the deal?

Basically the same - about 40GB on each.

Also, I forgot to mention that the PB's HD is 5400 RPM. The MBP is 7200.

Your PB is superior.

But I wonder why you're doing it often enough to notice how long it takes. You don't believe in the permissions repair myth, do you?

And this? ("[P]ermissions repair myth"???)

I mean, I do a repair permissions after each software update.

And I noticed it the first time I did a repair permissions on my MBP-- and kept waiting... and waiting... and waiting for it to finish.

It's said in jest. Kind of. I have a thing against Apple switching to Intel.

This is a good article on the subject.

That's what I figured. I'm with you... somewhat.

I still don't really understand (or buy into) the "myth." I do however notice that every time I run the repair, it "repairs" at least 1 thing, so I don't consider it to be a waste of time or harmful.

"[A]las," we've digressed. I'd still like to know if anything is wrong here.

How long should it take to run the repair on my MBP?? I purchased it refurb from Apple, so I'm just double-checking to make sure everything is fine/as it should be.

The term "repair" in this context is deceptive. A permissions reset is what it is. Just because it changes something doesn't mean that thing was necessarily broken.

Yeah, I know.

Which to me means that there is no reason for the process to take so flipping long.
