thank you, I need to know what happened to the L3 cache as well, or my waiting around has been completely pointless!

Looks like it vanished due to cost cutting.

Maybe they have put in the 7447 instead of the 7457.. so Motorola still have problems with the 7457..

Yup, L3 cache is a big performance booster. Win some lose some.

serious? apple cut the L3 cache (smack apple back-hand styles!) or the chip is changed making the L3 no longer necessary. I would have been better off buying 3 months ago had I known L3 was to be cut. Damn you apple if this is true!

The US and british pages don't match.
They have quite a few specs listed differently. I guess we have to wait until it is sorted out.
The US applestore lists 512KB L2, and no L3.

Whats this mean ? There is nothing
on the US tech specs about L3 cache.

Interesting that the UK site talks about Level 3 cache, while the US site (take out the "/US") talks about the 512K of Level 2 cache. As does the specs PDF.

Confused?!

The 7457 is not suppose to have L3 but AFAIK true DDR and a 512 L2; the older current chip has "fake DDR" but an L3 cache

Sigh, there's no such thing as 'fake DDR'. Either the memory is DDR or it's not. The FSB isn't double pumped.
And again from apple's site (no, I didn't study this, it took about one minute to read the whole thing), it says 133FSB for the 12" and 166FSB for the 15" and 17". So I'd say it's not a double pumped FSB.

So, 512K Level 2 is better than 1MB Level 3.

Does this apply to most software that benefited from Level 3 (the reason was the original 12" was sluggish in some games / Virtual PC)?

7457 = 512KB L2 cache and SDR FSB.
7457RM = 512KB L2 cache and a DDR FSB.

I think these systems have the 7457.
